I live in upstate NY and after my first horrifying winter driving the Magnum I bought a used SUV to survive the NY winters. I know many people say how great their LX is in the snow, but from personal experience I can not reccomend that anyone attempt to drive it in snow country.

Well so far my Magnum RT does no worse than my F-150 that I traded in for the Magnum. Yea the F-150 had more ground clearance and 4x4, but I hardley used 4x4 for daily driving and the F-150 has no form of traction control. I have put "snow" tires on my Magnum and have been pleasantly suprised. I can and will recommend a Magnum for winter driving, properly equiped and knowing how to drive in slippery conditions goes a long way. And for the record, I live in North Dakota and we get quite a bit of snow and ice.

And really - that's the point - isn't it?! A Subaru with F1 Supercar tires isn't going to 'impreza' [!] anyone driving on snow and ice - either. Practically any vehicle - I believe - that is driven slowly, smoothly and steadily [AND equipped with a good set of appropriate tires] can cope with practically any road condition.

I had an AWD SUV before I got into my two Magnums and had a couple of close calls including doing a 180 going slowly around a curve in my neighborhood.

Never had any issues whatsoever, and certainly no close calls in my SRT8 Magnum.

I'll stick with my baby although now that the wifey has a Grand Cherokee I will be keeping my baby off the salty roads most all the time.

Well that is the point I was trying to make. I hope I didnt come across as an a$$. But basically a good set of tires and some decent driving skills can make any car managable during winter.

Exactly. No problems with handling or traction last year through the winter. I think sometimes people expect the electronics to be the answer to winter driving, but no matter what you still have to use common sense when driving in winter conditions. Like the signs say here in Ontario 'Drive based on the road conditions'. I dont think you can do your everyday driving habits that are used in non-winter conditions. I drove a 4x4 in winter for 10 years.. rarely used the 4by on it. Having driven the Magnum, it is no worse than any other vehicle. I also feel a lot of people drove FWD vehicles for too long and forgot the finer points of RWD driving ;) Just my opinions tho.

Just be careful guys and not confuse snow with ICE. Snow doesn't worry me, ICE does. Not to many cars, trucks, 4wd/awds do very well on ice

If you know how to drive on snow and ice, it's a pretty good car. 3rd winter and I'm still running on stock all season rubber. The length makes it more stable on ice than smaller cars but it will still slide and refuse to turn with the best of them.

I figure if I bought X-Ice or Blizzacks I'd be ready for anything but a foot of snow.

It's very nervewracking to drive in snow and ice, but it does go.

The car does fine on both snow and ice. ESP is a bit useless in the city, and I spend much of the time with it turned off while tooling aroung town. Out on the highway it is very stable with the ESP on, certainly no worse than my pickups and likely much better. The ICE Bears probably help to some degree.

my SXT AWD did wonderful in the 4 inches of ice and 5 inches of snow on top of it other than getting high centered a couple of times it pulled itself around without any probs...the high centering was a problem...when they plow the roads and the side roads getting onto main roads have 2 foot snow banks and you have to drive through them it liked to get stuck...and you couldnt get much speed due to road conditions
