HELP! Besides the name, what is the difference between rwd and fwd rims? I honestly had no idea it was that important. I thought rims were rims. There's a set of rims from VERDE called Scorpion. When I tried to order them, I was told that they won't work on a Charger because it's RWD. What the heck? Someone please set this new "car guy" straight.

From my online research it seems that the "offset" is the determining factor when a rim is considered FWD or RWD. I found a good
explanation on this site. http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse.com/FWD_or_RWD_which_do_I_have_.cfm
I hope this helps.

"offset" is the determining factor when a rim is considered FWD or RWD. I found a good.Exactly, rims designitated as FWD typically have substantially higher positive offset.

Actually, no. It's just the opposite.
A RWD offset, for our LX cars varies between 12 - 24mm. For the AWD LX car, it'll be 35 - 45mm, usually like a FWD car.

FWD cars typically have an offset more like the AWD LX.

My mistake. Sincerest apologies.

Do you know why?

Do you know why?Usually to clear various suspension and driveline components, like the CV joints for example.

Do you know why?The track is wider on the AWD so they had to bring the wheels in or they'd stick out.
