View Full Version : Watch this 300c smoke a Vette

The M&G was fun, but there was one race that show's what Meister and his 300 are all about.

I sent BobF the raw footage of the evening at the track, so I am expecting some editing miracles, but nobody should have to wait to see Meister beat a Vette and lay down a great track time....so, without further delay, ENJOY this:

1 car length on the tree, didn't look like the vette moved from the rear bumper for the entire run, although it's very very hard to tell from that angle. Vette ran a 13.20, so there should have been a 2 car lead at the traps on ET alone, maybe 3 with the near perfect launch??

Awesome run Meister.

Thanks for props, folks. That did make for an exciting run, keeping the 'Vette at bay while feeling fairly confident that a 12-something was in the making.

There was actually more of a dynamic going on than the video depicts. I walked away from him for the first 1/16 or so. Then he began a slow reel-in (compare 1/8 mile speeds) in the middle, closing to maybe a length and a half, then stagnated. The Hemi's torque took over and I owned the last 1/16th as well, and was slowly pulling away again when we went through the traps (compare 1/4 mile speeds).

Nothing like the torque of this Hemi to push a brick faster than that 'Vette motor could push a dart.

I've attached my timeslip for convenience.

Tony, it was great getting acquainted with you at the M&G, and then to visit with you again at the track. :beerchug:

Thanks so much for your excellent video work. I'd never dreamed that my 12-something run would be under such perfect circumstances: great-looking late model 'Vette in the opposing lane and a forum-friendly photographer capturing it all on film. :thumbs_u:

I'll treasure this video clip - know that I'll be thanking you each & every time I dust it off and replay it.

And I commend you on your beautiful ride. What a car!

:not_worth

65standard proclaimed it so, Matt. Others have verified it.

The DA was just over +1700' at the time of that run. That corrects to a 12.7@109.5 mph at sea level.

And with the present negative DAs back on the eastern seaboard, the pass my sweet C made last Saturday night at Speedworld would have been a 12.46@112.10 mph, or better, at either of the two most recent Etown meets, as RobAGD and others have inferred.

Ah, in case you've forgotten, Matt, you're holding the keys to my sig till we can get the forum software fixed or get me better educated on photo shop. So if you'd kindly do the honors I'd appreciate it: 12.97@107.7.

Thanks much. :)

Forgive my choice of words then. From my perspective at trackside, it was visually stunning to see a four door classy (heavy) sedan beat a Corvette. I chose the word "smoked", however you are correct, other words may apply. Of course in a two car race, there is only so many ways to say somebody won, and somebody lost. :)

I haven't ever raced before but isn't a .477 reaction time completely atrocious?Get in the game, Dan. Then it will be easy for you to make your own determination.

Simply delaying slightly to make sure one doesn't red light can give an r/t of .500 or higher.

No, I wouldn't characterize a .477 reaction time as "autrocious".

I hate being a noob!On this forum and 300C as well there are any number of posts where members, from near-noobs to seasoned veterans, share their track tips & tricks and walk you through it step my step.

It'll only be your first time once, just like everybody else.

Grinner even has an awesome video clip showing you how to stage, etc., etc.

Check out these great resources, then PM me if you still have any questions.

You'll have a great time. And it's more fun if you take a bud' with you (that's NOT a beer  ).

Dan, if I can do it....YOU CAN DO IT! I had no idea what I was doing and I was so nervous and afraid that I would make a fool of myself. But once you get to the line, your adrenaline is pumping and you can't think of anything but flooring it and reaching the end as fast as you can.

I probably did everything wrong but I had the best time doing it!

Awesome run Meister. You're correct, Magnum'. There was, in fact, a 3-car lead, and, I might add, opening (compare trap speeds - I'm walking away), as we approach the traps.

Visual perception is based on perspective. Had the lane positions been reversed, or had the cameraman been standing to the right of the track, the opening would have been much more apparent.
==============

All - I was fortunate enough to have the quickest street car at the track yesterday, TMK, running a corrected 12.7 at 109 mph on 6 out of 7 runs. Actual best time was 13.013@107.086. My ride defeated several cars by 7 or 8 car lengths that typically run in the 12s.

DA was 1500'.

The car is running extremely strong since receiving my newly-reflashed B&G ECM. I'm surprised that the corrected time isn't a 12.6 or better as all other indicators are that she's clearly making more power now. I'll elaborate in a more appropriate thread.

The B&G flash now approaches perfection - there is nothing that I can suggest at this time to improve it further. It has truly awakened the beast within my sweet vanilla C.
