I don't know if this is an aftermarket add-on kind of system.

There's a camera of sorts pointing forward betwixt the rearview mirror and the windshield. How to mount and assure proper "aim?"

Probably would require an entirely different wiring harness run up to/from who knows where. Power for cam and the image signal.

There has to be processing software (and computer) to analyze the camera image and determine the system response.

There would be a change of software to the EVIC display in order to enable/disable the feature.

Thanks, Seems That I Have Seen Something On This As A Mod Add On Before, But Cannot Find It.

Just ordered the part, for the 300C, which includes: Rear View Mirror, with UConnect. Next, will be to have the scan tool turn it on. Total Cost $340.00. If you are adding UConnect with the rearview mirror as I did, you can also get the SmartBeam at the same time.

Please let us know how that goes. I'm not calling you a liar, but this is the first anybody's made that assumption. A few have added the uconnect mirror w/ autodim, and unless you have a new part number, it doesn't do the high beam thing.

Ordered it from Moparsuperstore. Should be here by the end of this week or early next. The part is for a 300C. The Jeep part plugs do not fit. The plug must fit, otherwise the system will not function according to Mopar. They were kind enough to get the 300C Part Number for this unit. Will post it when it arrives !!!!

On the rearview mirror, should be a camera. To activate, a dealer scan is required to turn it on.

Autodim has one sensor on the front side (windshield side) and one of the back side (mirror side). It compares the light levels between the two and adjusts the tint of the mirror accordingly. The high beam system is totally separate as I understand it.

Yes, it's yet another module that goes on the windshield separate from the Uconnect/Autodimming mirror and the rain sensor.

ok so i was looking at my rear view thru the windsheild and i see a little indent in the back side of the mirror so im guessing thats that auto dim, but i also see a little rectangular box that has a dark reddish tint to it is that the smart high beam sensor

It comes with the windshield as an integrated part.

I bet the smartbeam system can be added, but probably only to a car whose FCM knows it's an option.

Well, based on what I've seen so far with the VES, the SAT, the Uconnect, the Rain Sensor... They all talk on the CAN bus. Once you get it wired on there correctly, the FCM will register an error message when it sees it (nothing critical, just that there's a foreign device on the bus). But at this point, you can then go in and tell the FCM, hey, that's legit, allow it... The FCM is aware of these things, but turns a blind eye, until you specifically tell it to acknowledge it. (Bit of a snob that module!)

Most of what we're interested in, is on the CAN-B Bus in the LX.

Here's what I know....

WCM - Wireless Control Module (Vehicle Security Control, Keyless entry)
CCN - Cab Compartment Node (Instrument Cluster)
LRSM - Light/Rain Sensor Module
AMP - Amplifier
SDAR - Satellite Receiver
VES - Vehicle Entertainment System (Monitor/DVD Media System)
SCM - Steering Control Module
HSM - Heated Seat Module
OCM - Occupant Classification Module
DDM - Driver Door Module
PDM - Passenger Door Module
MSMD - Memory Seat Module
PTS - Park Assist Module
HIDT - High Intensity Discharge Headlights Module (Headlight Leveling Module)
TIRM - Traffic Information Receiver Module
RADIO - Do I really have to explain this one?
HFM - Hands Free Module (Factory version of Uconnect)
HVAC - Heat Ventilation and A/C
ORC - Occupant Restraint Controller Module
ITM - Intrusion Transceiver Module (European)
PTIM - Police and Taxi Interface Module
EOM - Electronic Overhead Module
SUNR - Sun Roof Motor/Module

FCM - Front Control Module (Fnky Chkn Module... It knows all, sees all.)

ECM - Engine Control Module (Diesel)
PCM - Powertrain Control Module
TCM - Transmission Control Module
ABS - Antilock Brake Module
ESM - Electronic Shift Module

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e266/srt8jaak/Scan%20Tool/CANBusDevices.jpg

So, do our FCM's know the system? If so, I would expect the module could be added on to the CAN-B bus and then enabled.

The Mirror with Camera, UConnect, Etc is Part Number is: 04806261AB. Unplug battery, intall, plug in using mirror wiring plugs. ( If this is a new intall, make sure you have the wiring for the UConnect Mirror, JETHARNESS $79.99, PLUS THE UConnect MIRROR HARNESS $35.00) The mirror with camera, and UConnect part number is 04806261AB and cost $370.00

Do a StarScan. If you do not have the correct ECU, Front Control Module, you will need part number 04692028AG Software Version 12.07.00 or better. This part is $170.00.....

Once installed, Do a StarScan, and turn on the SmartBeams (FCM), and HFM (UConnect). Now you have it all!

Do you still need all the other componets for the uconnect to work with
the smartbeam system or is the mirror the only difference? I would think you still need the telematics module correct?

I don't see the microphone on top that other Uconnect mirrors have?

Yeah, interesting point...

Hmmm... Well if this does work, I'd be interested in getting one as well. I have a starscan to turn it on with, so that's not a big deal.

Hey, if someone wants to buy me one, I'll test it out and do a write up! LOL!

LOL, Yeah, it's been too friggen cold, but the harness is sitting here waiting for me to put it in. Then I can enable it with the StarMobile and start working on the mounting. (Might be easiest to just break my windshield and get a new one!)

Talking to people that have had auto headlights, they HATED IT. Older systems, just FYI.

I volunteer to help with the breaking!!!!

I just found out my insurance company covers glass for free. Apparently this is somewhat common, I'm just slow. Anyway, if this works....

Have 08 300CSRT8 Uconnect mirror with smartbeam and ordered 08 uconnect harness for vehicles that came with the standard mirror. When the harness gets here I'll see if it works at least with my Mygig. Doubt the Smartbeam will work in my 05

I've got an 2007 300C with the SmartBeam, and stopped using it. It didn't manually lower the highbeams, and was always getting flashed down by others. It if worked at all, it was working to late. Had dealer look at it, but of course they said it was ok. So I just don't use them. (not really needed anyway). If that's all you want, don't waste you money or time.

IMHO,
Kevin

I have what I think is the same system on my wife's 2008 Escalade. They call it Intellibeam. It has a sensor that can see if there's any cars within a certain distance in front of you. If you're going over 25MPH and there's no one within a certain distance in front, it will turn your high beams on. Once a car comes within range, it turns your high beams back off. It only works if you have the feature turned on and you don't manually turn your high beams on. If you have manually activated your high beams, they will stay on when a car drives by.

Not sure if it's exactly the same with the Chrysler, but it works well on my Escalade.

This is what the mirror assembly looks like on our 2006 Heritage Edition from outside the window.

http://www.300cforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=1594

The red square is the auto-wipers rain sensor.

The triangular "glob" under that is the SmartBeam* camera facing forward.

The indention on the back of the rearview mirror on the driver's side, apparently, is the "forward" light sensor for the auto-dim.

The various cables and connections can also be seen. Of course there's a nice "mask" hiding the upper portion so you can't see it all.

At least somewhat related to the Smartbeam project, can anyone confirm if 300Cs, namely Heritage cars, that come with Smartbeam have the full Xenon HIDs, or are the headlights Halogen. Can any owners confirm one way or the other? Sorry for the :hijack:

Thanks

Was this an option in 05. I plugged in a 2008 Smartbeam mirror with uconnect and nothing happened. Do I need to activate it on the bus? It does work with my mygig perfectly though!

I have and an '07 300C with the SRT-Design package with the Smartbeam, and it just has regular headlight bulbs. I don't recall what thread I posted on this subject, but they don't work, I was always getting flashed down, and I "did" have everything set correct. Took it to the dealer and they said everything was fine, or course, but they didn't drive it at night. So I have the Smartbeam turned off. Don't really need it anyway.
