choosing Winter Tires

I was wondering if anyone here changes their tires for Winter and if so , what brand/ size is the best?
I have a 06 300 Limited 215/65R17 RWD.
The ones that are on it are the orginal Goodyear all season and I find them the useless in the winter.
I was told to go to a Michelin X-Ice.... however I dont want to change the rim size.... any suggestions here?

I'm sure lots of people will chime in soon, but I don't know why you'd have to change rim size.

the Michelin Latitude X-Ice comes in 215/65QR17

Thanks for the response! I know they come in the right size but for some reason they cost more here than the 18" which doesnt make any sense to me, which then means I would have to pay more to get a new set of winter rims and tires, unless I want to pay for just the 17" tires ($359.00) more than the other ones.
I have no idea how they come up with this and hopefully it was a misprint in the flyer.
I checked out Wheels West and they had the best price but these same tires were only available in a 60 series..... god do I hate having to make decisions....(lol)
I am so used to buying truck tires which is easy.....for my previous vehicle (2001 Dodge ram slt 4x4).
Sometimes I think I should have kept the truck!:roll:

For a couple bucks more, you can get a snow tire package (with rims)...

You don't have to pay someone to mount and balance every season change this way...

Personally, I like Bridgestone Blizzaks for winter tires. Typically a little less expensive than Michelins and in most of the tire tests I've read the Blizzaks perform better. I've used them on a few FWD, RWD or AWD cars and trucks/SUVs and have never been disappointed.

I also highly recommend Tire Rack.

Blizzaks are pretty sweet, I had a set on my Volvo many years back. I swear they gripped better than my summer tires... I also tried a Blizzak "knockoff" which was decent and cost a lot less, but I can't remember the name or find my receipt...

I put Toyo G02 Plus snow tires on (225/60/18) and they are great!

Kumho KW-19 studded. Put them on today and waiting for the snow to fly. When ass was said and done, proce came to $1100 for 18's.

ohhhhh, any Canadian will admit that the winters are the worst here..... we had an early snowfall here 2 weeks ago and i was terrified to drive my car with the freak drivers(kids) out there on the road, especially after last year. I will be placing that order for the Toyo`s in a week or so , mainly because the roads are dry pavement right now and I dont want to put those winter ones on til there is actual snow on the roads as Adam had said.
Last year I had too many close calls from being cut off while turning etc....I value this car too much to leave the all season tires on it again.

I would add the Pirelli Scorpion Ice&Snows very good tires.

I put X-Ice on the family van. Best aftermarket purchase ever. The only problem is that you have to be careful as you can outbrake everyone behind you.

I just ordered Nokian's which have good user feedback. I chose these to get the proper speed rating and sizing that I needed for my application. Tires: 235/60/18 on front and 255/55/18 on rear - staggered set up, rolloing on TSW Thruxton's: 18x8 front and 18x9.5 rear.

I can let you know after instalation and our first snow fall how I make out. Severe winter rating (mountian with snow flake) V spec. tire with a 80,000 KM wear rating.
