Just got back fron Tempe, AZ. Stopped by the stealership to get some information about the new Aspen and Challenger. The wife is intrested in the Aspen. Asked a couple salesmen that were standing around about the Aspen and they said they wouldn' have that vehicle since it wasn't a Dodge product. WTF???
Asked them about a down payment on the Challenger. They said they were accepting 10,000 payments then when they get the car it's the 10k sown payment + MSRP + dealer mark-up. They said the dealer was gonna up the price at least 10K.
As far as I'm concerned these guys are crooks. What do you guys think?
Any body know a good dealer that doesnt try to screw people. I want to put my money down on the Challenger but I refuse to pay the dealer 10-20K over MSRP.
Think I should report this to DCX. They treated use like crap and I was drivin my new Maggie!!
Thanks, TJ

When the 2005 Mustangs were coming out, I went to Ford dealership that I thought was legit (which I also at the time had bought two cars from) and went to order an 05. After going through the process of picking out colors and interior options, etc. they tell me the price. At first I thought I picked the wrong options or something so after about ten minutes of going over everything I asked why is this over 35k for a Mustang GT with nothing in it. I was told, 26k for the MSRP, plus 8k markup because it will be a rare car, and a 1k dealership fee for allowing me the chance to buy the car there.
Needless to say I refused to go to that stealership again. I almost took out an Ad in the local paper delcaring them crooks and warning people not to shop there, but then realized that two other stealerships were doing it. And because people keep paying for it, they will continue to do it.

just shop around. I found a dealer who was really straight on my SRT back when the crooks were getting big markups.
Patience, they are out there

It's a ways away but try Dave Smith in Kellogg, Id. They sell ALL vehicles for $217 over factory invoice. Doesn't matter what the vehicle is that's the way they sell them.

My dealer has been a friend of mine for years. I will not use their service due to the service manager being a jack ass, but they always find a way to make me happy with sales. Three cars in the last 16 months alone :)

I called Dave Smith yesterday. The guy I talked to said the down payment was $5000 and they didn't have any slots left. Anyone here have any pull with these guys.
I really want this car and the wife has agreed so I have to put the money down before she changes her mind, but I'm not gonna get ripped either.

Wait 2 years then buy it at invoice, or if you're really dying to be the first to have one then you're going to pay through the nose for it.

FYI, saw a TV commercial about the new Aspen coming out, it is made by CHRYSLER...............not Dodge.
That's why the Dodge dealer knew nothing about it, does your Dodge dealer also sell Chryslers?

Lesson I have learned from my own experience. When dealers in Chicago wanted MSRP +5K for Magnum RT, I found a dealer in Iowa that sold me the card for $300 under invoice. When the overpriced dealer called, I told him what I got and told him to blow me (without censoring).
Market runs on "bigger fool" theory. If you are paying MSRP or over sticker, you are a fool.
I am looking at couple of sports cars now and even new Cayman S you can get for invoice in some states, when Chicago dealers want sticker plus.

I have a call in to Dave Smith about both of the cars you want. They do have one Aspen on the lot and he is going to ask about the Challenger and get back to me. I bought my car from them and saved 12k over the sticker locally.

DONT ever go there again! AND tell all your friends, relatives, acquaintances, coworkers, strangers-in-the-street and splatter it all across the internet as well.
I relaize that they are in business to make a profit, but geez - how much is 'enough' anyway?

Take it easy fellas - the folks at the assembly plant don't even know if the Challenger is coming, never mind when!
We'll be waiting for quite some time for this car.

Here is the low down from Dave Smith in Kellogg, Idaho. They are taking deposits for the 2008 Dodge Challenger ($1000). They also have 7 Aspens on the lot as well. If this interests you call 1800-635-8000 ext. 1303 (Justin) and tell them Rich Repp told you to call.

Thanks REPPR. I've checked around in the Phoenix and Tucson area with no luck. Gonna Give Justin a call tomorrow.
By the way every source I've found says the 08 Challenger will be available in about 18 months. I had a 70 Challenger in High School and finally have a reason to get excited about a car again so I gotta have one. My wife thinks I'm going through a midlife crisis. A least I'm not punchng her off for a younger woman. I'm just buying a hot car!!
Thanks for all the replies.

I know what you mean about being excited. My sig shows my last 300 and I was so elated that the 300 was coming back out. I wanted the 300M, but, when I saw the new body style 300C I really got excited. Dave Smith is the largest Dodge dealer in the world and do great businesss. The month I bought my car they sold 950 cars off the lot. IN A MONTH! I hope you get on the waiting list and get your challenger. If you get one and are planning on driving it home, come thru Seattle and we'll give ya a great NW welcome.

When I bought my MSRT8 a couple weeks ago I asked about the Challenger. The salesman chuckled and told me to expect eveyone to markup $5k-$10k for the first model year. They were planning on $7k. I thanked him for being honest. Ford dealers are getting $12k or more above sticker for the GT500's just because they're 'rare'. I'm not saying it right, but I'm certainly not saying I'm surprised, either. You gotta' pay to play. I'd personally just rather wait a year to play and then pay less to do it :-p

Congratulations!!! They are the absolute best to deal with as I would personally deal with them again. You truly can't go wrong with Dave Smith. When you get your challenger, you'll be able to say you got the best deal anywhere. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
P.S. Would love to meet you when you come through Seattle. Door is always open.

REPPR, you are the man. :not_worth Got off the phone with Justin today and I'm on the list. He's seems to be a great guy and also knows a fair amount about the challenger, at least a hell of alot more than any local dealership around here.
He told me they would be selling th RT at invoice + $200.
Thanks for the help
