I’ve had my 300C HE (inferno Red) for about four months now and am still in love like the day I picked her up. I live in the suburbs of Detroit and commute 44 miles each way to work with this beautiful car. In these 44 miles there are three to four places each way where I can press the loud pedal and hear my baby growl. I cannot get enough of this car and look for excuses to drive places. I can really sense the often reported improvement in performance after accumulating 6,500 miles on my HE.
Anyway, there is one spot in my commute where a freeway ends at a traffic light (M53 and 28 Mile Road) and there is a good quarter mile before traffic goes down to one lane. Nearly every time I am the first car at this traffic light, I find someone who wants to race the half mile. More often than not, it’s someone in a big diesel pick-up truck. One day last week, I picked the left lane, which meant I would have to pass the car in the right lane or slide behind them when the lanes converged. There was a Ford F350 Super-Duty Diesel in the right lane and he was not about to let me get by. When the light changed I had to feather the accelerator as there is a slight bump through the intersection, but then I hit WOT. He did the same and this diesel was making a commotion like I haven’t seen in sometime, and throwing out a cloud behind it. I pulled on him pretty easily, but I was impressed with how quick this diesel pickup was. I pulled into the right lane in front of him and gave him a thumbs up as we came to the next light. He quickly slips into the left lane besides me and wants to challenge me for again before the two lanes converge in about 100 feet. Same thing smoke, noise and I walk away from him. He ends up following me for a while which made me a little nervous, but it was merely a coincidence..
At 47 years old, I’ve never had a car which has provided so much excitement on my daily commute, and has all the creature comforts one could ask for. My last car was a Mercedes and was boring compared to this car. Though I am in love with this 300C HE, I still dream about an SRT8. I’ve visited my dealer twice and encouraged them to make me an offer to get me into a BB SRT8, but I don’t think they believe I’m serious.
In the meantime, I’ve got one of the best looking, high performance daily rides around.
