Anyone have any opinions / rcommendations for replacing the rear taillight bulbs with LED bulbs? I bought some from Autolumination, but they were very dim. I have read some very old posts where people were saying they could not believe how bright they were. I would like to know where they got those.

I picked some up at Auto Zone and didn't like the results. The ones I got were 3057 replacements. As a straight running light, the brightness is a bit better than a stock bulb. However, the brand I got barely got brighter when you applied the brakes or used the turn signal making them unsafe, IMO. The way the particular bulbs I purchased group the LEDs, they don't take full advantage of the reflector in the light assembly. I took them out of my 300M and put them in my Grand Caravan as an experiment and the results were even worse. I'm thinking that what is required is a larger cluster of LEDs on a circuit board custom made to fit your vehicle's light assemblies. If you look at a new Caddy or BMW, for example, you can see they pretty much pack the entire area behind the lens with as many LED's as wil fit. In my case, a 3057 replacement with 8-10 LEDs clustered into an area the size of a quarter just doesn't cut it.

You may want to check here:

I haven't tried these yet, but I think they look interesting and may solve the poor brightness issue associated w/LED's in general...

Is this the one you bought??Those look pretty close. They just aren't bright enough imho.

IIRC spiderlites didn't fit. I think bmartin1922 was the guinea pig on that one. Maybe.

If you go into the taillight gallery on the web site it shows a direct replacement with a 300c stock taillight.

edit: but they are pricey @ $44.00 a piece.

Actually the ones I received had a clear base, not black. Other than that, they look just like them. When I first contacted them about my problems, Tracy asked what color the base was. I told her clear and she said she would send me another type. I have to assume that it is the one you have pictured. Since that time, after reading these posts, she is going to send me the Tower II's in red.

I believe that's what I have and they are brighter than the stock bulbs and is the picture I posted above.

Hope you are happy with them when received.
