Almost everyone here wants to make their car stand out in a crowd. I was wondering...has anyone wanted to make their car a sleeper?
Like say the SRT folks. De-badge it, put stock R/T wheels or better yet SXT wheels, find some Z rated tires and then wait to suprise some poor sap. Have it on NOS and the surprise would be that much better.
Just a thought.

I thought about debadging, but I think the badge gives it an aggressive look. Plus, you can't just debadge and put on different wheels to make it not look like an srt. You also have things like fascias, wings, Brembos... Will the other wheels even fit with the brembos? I paid not only for the power, but for the looks... Plus some people still don't know what the SRT means anyways. Had to educate an RT magnum not too long ago...

Doesnt "SRT" mean "small RT"???? Just kidding!
I think the Magnum in general is a "sleeper" for all those who look at it as a station wagon only to find out what is under the hood.
Interesting idea though.

My car is headed this way...
I love sleepers...
Got my dad's old 1985 Ford Crown Vic with a blown 351 in it, it looks like a grandpa car complete with opera lights and stock wire hub caps...
Had a 1971 VW Bus with a Chevy 427 in it years ago, took up the whole back end of the bus, had 1 cylinder running thru a stock VW muffler so it sounded like a beat up POS, used to make the Camaro and Mustang boys in high school $hit themselves at a red light drag :pepper: :owned:
Had a 1978 Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am with over 1000hp Chevy 454 in it and kept the original paint on it and a few dents just for the purpose of messing with souped up rides in the early 80's
I love sleepers.... :zzz:zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Only problem with doing that to an SRT is nothing will clear the brakes.I thought about putting the Fascia's and black wheels from my R/T on my SRT though and dropping a few jaws at the track.Too bad I didn't have enough time at the dealer.....lol

I have been working with Kelly at HEAT PERFORMANCE to create a very affordable, super sleeper combo. I have preaching about it for some time. Its alot like you mention..........
It requires a stock or lightly modded R/T and around $3k..........depending on current mods and such.
The combo should run 12.2 - 12.5 depending on weather and your area's altitude.
It will sound stock, be streetable, safe, fuel responsible, and fun. I believe if you call Kelly and tell him you want a Stage I he can fill you in on the details.........
My car will be finished with the first Stage I in about 3 weeks...........
The basic build is;
HEAT CNC ported heads (flows similar to 6.1)
HEAT's stage I cam / lifters
100% full stock SRT exhaust w/ resonators
B&G flash
TCM or SC
Nitrous - 100 shot - Zex controller and you brand of kit
Use your stock wheels.........I even recommend buying 2 other stock wheels to mount BFG Drag Radials on.
Run around 22 - 24 psi on rear tires with 60 psi in the front and disconnect the frt sway bar links.
With some launch-coaching, you can expect consistant 1.8's and mid to low 12's............
After I prove this combo to be the "real deal", we'll make it a little less "sleeper" and pull off a high 11 SAFELY with no added dope.
Continue to watch the FORUM over the next couple of months as we post our results of Sleeping Beauty. Then stay tuned as we try some new proto-type products that will take us to the 12-oh mark and maybe below!
Results will most likely be posted on the HEAT Performance website as well..........

I would LOVE to see that!

The REAL sleeping beauty would be a AWD R/T, NOT LOWERED, and a big stall converter.
COuld be riding on crap tires and still be a rocket ship...

Ok, so... in the last week I've heard "Big Stall" from multiple people and on forums... but I'm dense that way... what is it?

It's in reference to a higher stall speed torque converter. Helps get out of the hole a tad!

Sleeping Beauty. I like it. I can imagine the paint scheme!
No real paint scheme.......just plain green, stock wheels, stock grill.
The ONLY way you can pick it out is from the one sticker on the rear glass that says, "SHUT UP HIPPY!"......and yes I'm serious.

Well, I'm sure if this person called Kelly or who ever, they could make it happen.
Does anyone know what type of torque the AWD system can take?
As far as a big stall............it doesn't exist.......I am working with what I got. It will most likely end up being the fastest of its type.........till 6 more months and someone will top it........then 6 mo later that one will be topped.
Right now, you can get this combo..............there will always be something new out and the "latest greatest".

Most evil sleeper I've seen was a 72ish Duster. It was pea-green, with rust and bondo. Three weld drag-lite wheels and the 4th wheel was a black steel oddball.
Headliner hanging down, and primer in spots all over the car.
Under the hood was a 440 with a 100 shot of Nitrous.
Guy wanted 3k for it (basically the motor unless you really wanted to maintain that ultra sleeper look).

If I had the cash, the time, and the talent - I'd do up one of these

Plymouth Voyager in the 12's with no LEO attention on the way home. Ultimate sleeper.

I plan to make my Daytona into a "sleeper".
Now that's going to be hard to do!
It will still look like a Daytona, but with a bit more sting than normal. (Everyone knows those 5.7s aren't all that fast right?)
BTW, I don't think you can put R/T wheels let alone SXT wheels on an SRT8.

Sleeper is my long term plan. Every M&G I get crap about my stock wheels, stock grill, etc. This is exactly why!! I want a super sleeper! Already fooled a 911. Blew his doors off with only SC, T-stat, CAI and modified exhaust. Boy was he suprised.
