View Full Version : Does your right shin rub the center console?

Yeah, I know; I'm freakishly tall. No need to rub it in. But I can't believe this doesn't bother anyone else. I wear shorts quite often and I find the area just under my knee (the top of my shin) getting really irritated by the rubbing on the vertical plastic that makes up the left side of the center console.
A while back, I 3M'd some felt header material on that area. But, that isn't holding any more and it isn't the most comfortable anyway.

Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions/ideas?

Sorry, CV I'm only 5'10" so it's not an issue for me. Maybe some of the other 7 foot members can suggest something for you!

how about something furry. in a leopard print maybe.
Even if your average height it's nice to be able to move your feet around (while in cruise0 on a long trip. Thats why I've never been real "Hot" for consoles. The floor shift is OK but it sure would be nice to have the extra foot room. Too bad Dodge didn't make it (the console ) an option.

Tell me about it CV. On the long trips the right leg falls asleep resetting on the console. A nice paddel cover like the Elite 22 arm rest would be great. Myabe something that looks good too.

CV,
Do me a favor and measure from the floor to your shin at the point of contact with the center console and the circomference of you lower leg at that point...and send me your address. I make something for you to make you more comfortable and make it a little more aesthetic looking for the car. Let me know.

No soup for for you! You come back, one year!
Alright, Seinfeld's Soup Nazi. Heh. I can't believe I know that line. I hated that show. (For me it was never consistent...some days it would be really funny and others it would be really lame and the characters would piss me off. There was never an in between for me on Seinfeld.)
Anyhow, now to contribute something a little useful. I'm 6'2" 230lbs, and don't have a problem with my shin rubbing. I sit really far back, telescope the steering wheel all the way out, and seem to have it pretty comfortable.
On the other hand difference in proportions could easily make CV's legs longer than mine and definately more uncomfortable. How far back do you have the seat set though?
CoolVanilla

Christopher, I'll get those measurements later this morning and PM them your way. I'd really love to see what you come up with!
Quarky, I became a Seinfeld fan thru syndication; it wasn't till I sat and watched a couple episodes back to back that I started to get hooked. Now, I think its one of the funniest most well written sitcoms to have come down the pike in years.
As for my proportions; you hit the nail on the head. When I buy pants, I try for no less than 38" inseam and usually try to find a 40" but almost never do. Depending on the cut, in very rare cases I can get into 36" pants.
And yeah my seat is all the way back. Wish I had maybe 2 more inches and I've seriously considered moving the track but that brings with it a whole slew of safety and insurance questions / ramifications.

Man you must have dog hair growing out yer leg too from the look of the fuzz. Gotta be a better solution. Does anyone in yur house wear knee pads? You could borrow one. I lve my dog but she no longer is allowed in my car, leaves claw marks on the black hard interior surfaces and my wife won't let me have her declawed.
yeah -- you drive with your dog in the car though....
I'll tell Hilde you called her that... I take it this means you'll be driving to Eastway yourself for another set of O2 sensors?

Mine rubs. I'm 6'6", but it doesn't bother me. It actually bothers me more when I drive a car without a console that doesn't have something to rest my leg on. Weird.

I'm 6' 4" and my leg rubs. I took a travel pillow to use as a buffer when we went on vacation last spring. Real comfy. I used to other one to block the sun from my left leg. Didn't seem to matter which direction I was going; I usually had sun on my left leg. BTW, I got them a Wally World along with covers.

This is the coolest new thread, just when I thought I have read everything in my years on this forum.
I am 6'3" and have not had this problem, but probably because when I travel I kick off my shoes and put on the cruise and let my legs go where ever they will fit. I think the larger issue is the offset of the pedals to the seat. It seems to be inherant in DC vehicles; I had a jeep cherokee that was the same way. The line from the right side of the seat to the gas pedal is shifted to the left. This causes you to have to bend your leg awkwardly to the right, thus creating the shin rub.
Of course, I am sitting in a Munich hotel sippin brandy after a night of Bier Trinkin and all of this seems a bit surreal.
EDIT: $hit, I just realized, I am in Germany, I should look up Dr. Z and ask him about this!

Oh right on! If only we could get the column shift and no console. And a bench seat so my wife could sit next to me.

LOL! Gotcha! PM or email me when you'll be in so I can get these O2 sensors out of my car!
I guess the closest you could get to removing the console would be putting in the police version... Don't know that it would fix the problem, and you'd have to go to a tree shifter.

My solution will have to wait till after the 16th...I left it in the car when I dropped it off at Heat Performance for the 426 Stroker upgrade and well...it will get done and shown I promise :)

Y'know, my '73 Charger had that set up with a fold down arm rest in case you wanted to be alone - didn't happen very often when my sweety was with me!! But now that I think about it there was one day when I was home on leave from Germany, I was napping and she was driving, I woke up to my small block turning 6000! She was out (asleep)with her foot down and her eyes OPEN in high gear closing on a tractor trailer! I causually woke her and asked her when she was going to slow down a bit (just south of Comstock on 22 northbound in the summer of 1980!)
Those were good days.
:beerchug:
Yeah, and we know who tired her out!

LOL! My 26 year old was 6 months old at the time. We had come home for some time off. We had a mechanical problem and had to put down in Heathrow for emergency repairs. Sam was ill. Jeremy at 3 years was ACTIVE! This made the trip 18 hours instead of 10. My folks had taken the kids to Willsboro so we could get some needed reat at their house in Hudson Falls. As new parents, we couldn't sleep without our kids there so we headed up to catch up with them. We knew we were tired so we took the back roads thinking less of a chance of sleeping! I stayed awake and talked to here for the rest of the ride.
