I would guess you're very much in the minority here.
Although there is such a thing as too much - these cars beg for large wheels. The length of the vehicle and wheelbase along with the large openings demand it. I personally dig having 20s come from the factory (I just wish they were staggered with 10" in the rear)

I gotta agree with bobf, 20's are just right, especially with about 1.5" drop!!

i agree with bobf too.. i saw the concepts of are vehicles with 20s on them and they were staggered but they came out with 18s and 17s,
unless your lucky enough to get a srt8 but yeah 20s are nice if drop it and you get an aggresive stance and you dont lose performance.
I got 22s on my 300c cause im going more of a show but i think it all depends on the person and what are trying to do with the car...just my 2 cents

I'm with ya jbp! Actually, 18" rims are insanely huge to the "average" person you meet on the street in small town USA. I was thinking exactly the same thing on my last trip cross country. I hit so many rough back roads and such that there is no way I'd want less sidewall than the 18" provides. I might let a 20" go maybe, but absolutely nothing bigger. I'd replace the rims with 18" if I bought new today.

I would love to drop mine and have a 50% stiffer rate (Hotchkis will be done before fall) and have 22" wheels for track times. The reallity for me is that I run it all year and in two countrys. Canadian roads in March are a true adventure!!! I actually caught air a few times in Western Quebec this spring.

Personally, I think the 18" are just perfect. 20" i'm ok with, everything bigger, again IMHO, is just too big and looks dumb on the car. I do think the big wheels look ok in pictures, but in person I'm not liking them at all.

I'm with the 20" crew... 22's start to get tacky (depending on the wheel, of course), but 20's look right at home in the massive gaping abyss of a wheel well on the lx's.

I like larger sidewalls too! I want some shoulder to my tires. The BFG KDWII's on an 18 or 20 looks PERFECT to me. I really enjoy the look of a nice meaty masculine looking tire...

You can either stuff it with tires or wheels, its the same height.
You actually have more sidewall with 22's on a Magnum than a ricer does with 17's. Do the math. But, then again, I am sittin' on 22's & would never go back! :racing:
I guess its all a matter of what look you like, whether it be 'ol skool or new! (and yes, the spelling was intentional)

My personal preference is for the 18" wheels--I like meat on them bones! It is killing me to keep the stock Contiseals, I want to ditch 'em ASAP for the BF Goodrich tires, but I can't bring myself to toss away a perfectly good set of tires just yet! However, I know that some folks like a bigger wheel, and I say, it's your thang, do what you wanna do! :)
If you want to see some folks get downright irate over big rims, check out this thread (http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17761) over on the charger forums. And yes, I am guilty of helping to hijack that thread, shame on me. :)

I like the look of 22s on LX cars more than 20s... well it depends on the wheel chosen and the drop on the car. I'm going with either 20" or 22" KMC Black Jacks and Fives. It'll rock y'all in da face! My only wish is that the 255/55/18 KDW NTs on my Mag had white lettering. Nothing looks more muscle than that.

Unless the car is the SRT, I prefer the 18's from the RT vehicles. I am not a big fan of the extra large wheels. They do look better on the magnum than on the Charger / 300, but they are still not my choice.
I am biased having lived in Detroit for so many years. Rims like that with small side walls wouldn't last long with the crap MI roads we have.

I like my 20 in. SRT rims...the factory 18s , even though they ARE 18s , look a little small to me , for the size of the car.
For me , anything over 20 in. is just not an option....the ride difference from 18s to 20s was bad enough , I can`t imagine going to 22-24 or more.

I'm with you. I have no desire to go larger than 18"s. Based on what I just paid for tires, I wish I had 17s! ($540 for 4 BFG g-force KDWS 245/55/18)
Don't even get my started on the price of rims. I remember when I was shopping for rims for my Mustang years ago and thinking that $100 per rim for Cragar's (14x7) was crazy!

I think(just my opinion here) that anything larger than 20's look funny!
I see a lot of magnums/300's around here with 22's...and they dont look right....to me that is.
My opinion is probably swayed because I'm one of the performance swayed LX lovers, and 22's definetly dont scream performance.

No, it's the European look. Low-profile tires came first from Italy and Pirelli. What everyone here who is negative about 20" or 22" wheels is overlooking is that there are measurable and significant performance advantages to a low-profile tire.
Low-profile tires yield far greater road adhesion, quicker and more precise steering response along with far improved braking performance.
To me, not just for looks, but for performance, a 20" or 22" wheel is the best on the LX cars.

I don't like them either, though the SRT8 20's are nice looking, and I wouldn't mind a set of those, but my old school thinking is you need that sidewall to help absorb the imperfections in the roads, 55 series is as low a profile tire as I have ever or will ever use.
Car manufacturer's put certain size wheels and tires on for a reason, and for me bling bling is not a reason to risk the potential damage using non manufacture approved sizes can cause.
Plus I hate cleaning wheels only to have them get dirty the next time I drive.
looks alone ('bling bling) IMO is a poor reason to have huge wheels. If I'm going to be impractical I would rather put my money under the hood or have another set of wheels with some drag tires ( There's a thought, skinnies on the front drag tires on the back!) If I had 20"+ tires in Northern Minn. I'd have to have Winter tires too.

I am torn between keeping my 18's and getting 20's. I agree with the majority in this thread. More than 20", though good for handling, does not really help if it's a daily driver and you're in rush our traffic. Only dilema for me is finding rims that have a nice deep lip... the old school 5 spoke muscle car look. lockd.gif

my 2 cents, I think a magnum looks awsome on 22's i think its perfect, you dont have a chunky 4x4 look tire nor a rubber band like needed for the 24''s, the 22 on the 265 35 22 tire is just perfect, thats just my opinion

Wow, that's a lot of hostility over on the other forum! I agree with their reasoning, but man, are they bent on the topic!! Personally, 20's would be the largest I would ever go. Don't want to lose too much performance or comfort.
On the topic of tire sizes, I know it would look like complete crapola, but I wonder how 1/4 mile times would be affected by a set of really wide 14's? Are you with me on this?? Wide to keep the traction and let the TCM take care of the rest. These engines rev fast already, I'll bet with all that torque if the wide tread grips, it would get there PLENTY fast. With no rear end gears available, this might be a quick bolt on rear end ratio change! Call it a poor-man's 4.11's!!

with 22's on a SE magnum, how badly can u say u feel the negative effects to having that size wheel with the 2.7l motor..
pick was shot to hell?
breaking? what breaking, lol
reason i ask is cause a friend of mines had a SE with 22's andsaid merging on highways was murder, the car had no get up and go,,he always had to make sure he gave himself plenty of room..
so it got me to thinking,do i really want 22's , or a nice 20 with a lil drop, like the prokit..

i love my 22's!!! I havent had any trouble with rubbing since my 2" drop, and i have nailed a couple potholes in its day, and havent had a single ding, scratch, or knot. I love the looks of it, but in the great words of someone somewhere........to each their own. If you are rockin out a 17" Crager and it fits the car, then you have done your job well, if you are on a 24" MHT LLC Black, (i dream, i dream) and it fits your car, then you as well have done a great job of making your ride a peice of art on wheels that says something about the guy driving it.

just a few more bumps going down the highway, but in no way a hay-wagon. the only thing i have to watch out for is those nasty speed bumps, or steep valleys, as my 5" borla tips have found a liking to dragging themselves behind me every now and then.

first, there are a lot of a$$holes over at that other site that i no longer visit.
now, i went with 20's for looks and performance. i choose 20x8.5 245/45/20 front and 20x10 275/40/20 rears. with those sizes i was able to stay very close to stock overall diam. and with 45's and 40's for sidewalls, i still have enough meat for a daily driver. it's staggered just enough to look good and be functional. i spent months looking and asking questions. 20's imho are about perfect for this car. 22's become more show. they look great, just not the direction i wanted to go. i'm planning on giving her a mild drop and upgrading the suspension. so far the ride is very good, and the grip is damn good, wet or dry.

I had chromed 18's and went to 20's. The 20's are definitely the better option between the two. I lost something like 3/8" of sidewall going to a 20" tire (yes they are taller), so having sidewall available to absorb impact really isn't an issue with a 20" wheel.
Get forged rims and you have no weight issue. My wheels are 1/3 lb lighter than stock each. When I go to 27 lb GY's I'll be something like 5 lbs lighter than stock per wheel versus the ContiSeals that came stock.
22's are too much for me, but if you don't lower the car I think they look OK in some designs.

I guess I'm strange too!!! I would like to put '80's cop wheels painted body color with poverty caps on my car. The problem is there is no way to fit 15" wheels on the car. BTW, has anyone tried to put 17" aluminum wheels on an RT. They dont even fit, so here's my question, do steel SE wheels fit an RT. I'm looking for winter wheels cause 17" snow tires are much cheaper than 18's. And you can actually find them.

With 22" rims on my Prowler, I see the appeal of the larger rims.
Yet with my Magnum I chose to go more old school, now sporting five spoke 18" Enkei's (very light weight, 21lbs). As an after thought I wish I had gone down to 17" x 10" Enkei's.
I would like to see more Magnums/Chargers going old school look (I'm looking for more old school ideas). I must say that (IMO) the 300 actually begs for 22" minimum size rims.
I really appreciate the variety of looks the Magnum can take depending on the rims. Once moded there are no two Magnums alike.
I just love owning 1 of 1.

I'm debating the issue right now - I'm looking for wheels for my Charger, but can't make up my mind on the size - 20" or 22". I do think that the 22's fill the wheel well better, but I don't know if the loss of performance and the cost are justified by the need to look good.
On the other hand, the SRT's look pretty badass with 20's (I assume the suspension is lower than a stock SE or R/T - correct?)
I'm an old school guy too (own a 73 Charger as well), and I do wish that there were more vintage-type wheels made to fit our cars, both in bolt pattern and size.

I agree with you. These are the largest wheels (18") I've ever owned. My truck has 16" wheels, which I think are ample. I thinks 2" tall sidewalls are a joke unless you only drive on a smooth racetrack. Not suitable for daily diving.
