Anyone tried these and know if they actually work or if it is just a bunch of "hogwash"

http://estore.websitepros.com/802805/Detail.bok?no=382

I remember seeing an info-mercial on them a couple years ago....ran across this one for a magnum on the net today....just thought I'd check if it is worth it till I can afford an Airraid ....

Thanks

That's good to know.

We'll see how it works on the Magnums.

I remember reading an article in Popular Mechanics where they tested all these type of fuel saver and performance mods. They found that they actually hurt milage and performance.

Please don't wast your money. Tried one on a dyno to prove they don't work. Wishful thinking. If they worked, DCX would be there biggest customer! It would raise there CAFE ratings and save them billions.

I have one in my Magnum, and I put in the Airraid CAI at the same time. From what I can tell- one of them has made my fuel econemy go down. I only had the car a few weeks when I did this, but the 1st tank I monitored before the change I got 25mpg and now I get 22mpg the driving habits are reletively the same. I think I'll take out the tornado and try just the CAI.

Things that can be measured are not "opinions". And since nobody else on the planet who has ever tested this junk has found them to work, I would suspect your "test".

67alecto - I may be new to these forums, but not to forums in general. I would not have posted the question if I hadn't first done a search and gotten back a "Sorry - no matches" message. I must have mistyped tornado, because I search it now and get back 45 hits.

I DO appreciate you saying that I am "lame" as your added picture states, for asking a question. Forgive me for intuding my question and wasting your time.

Moderator, please lock this thread since this topic has been discussed before. No sense in a flame was erupting any more than it has. Thank you.

I had one in my 2001 Vette. Before installing it I got a consistent 26-28mpg. After install I seldom got less than 32mpg. I did these figures over the corse of 1 year. I would visit my now live in girlfriend once or twice a week and the drive was 400 miles one way.

It doesn't work on our vehicles (5.7 Hemi). I bought one and tried it for 30 days with NO improvement in MPG or HP whatsoever. Luckily I was able to return it to the local Pep Boys for a refund.

Do not waste your money. I have one I'll give you. Send me a PM if you want it.

edit: Sorry, I forgot I already gave it to ratman1648. Not surprisingly, he is only seeing maybe 1mpg improvement, which is almost certainly attributable to the placebo effect.

thanks for the quick response....I appreciate the info

And we need MDS to almost get that kind of mileage?

What's up with that?

Gee, I don't recall seeing him on the cover of all the car mags or interviewed on the today show.

The only way this could work is if your air intake is somehow "turbulent" and /or pulsing creating an inconsistent air flow. I too had the same question. After some forum members opinions and facts (based on dyno tests) these do not produce more horsepower or torque. They do not produce the same power for less fuel consumption either in our cars. Also, since then I have seen the Mythbusters debunk various fuel milage improvement options. Mythbusters aren't always perfect in their tests but they usually do a "good enough" job to be reasonably certain.

There are two possible explainations for how this could work for a car:
1. Again if the air is turbulent coming into the car, this device *may* be able to smooth it out some. However, anything that creates a restriction or adds resistance to the air is likely to hurt your fuel economy.
2. Perhaps their driving habits did change... they didn't mean to but since they were "looking" for a change in milage they drove a little easier. I have a stretch of highway I drive every day on my commute. On that stretch of highway I am able to get up to 33MPG on a consistent basis (if traffic doesn't make me slow down and speed up a bunch). On the other hand if I'm pusing my car a little bit I get 25-26 MPG on average during light acceleration (traffic usually causes it). If I really romp on the gas to pass people that are buggin' me I can get it down MUCH lower.

Your foot is your biggest friend. Your next biggest friend is a Superchips Flashpaq. There is no way I could get 33 MPG on this stretch of road without it and 91 octane. Before the flashpaq the most I could get on this road was 28MPG and that was hard, my average was 21-22 MPG. I know my driving is the same in all cases because I use the cruise control, set it, and ride during these tests. Humidity is a non-issue in the desert and the time of day I test is in the morning so temperatures don't vary much and has only gotten warmer.

On that stretch of highway my average is around 25-26 MPG.

In general... I have found very slight increase in mileage. I have had one on a Hyundai Sante Fe and a Ford Focus... gas mileage increased MAYBE 2 MPG. Randy... a good friend of mine had one on his Mushtang and he saw a 3 MPG increase.
They DO work better on some cars than others.
I , personallly see no reason to get one. I have been less than impressed with them.
Proper tire inflation and careful driving will get you better results for free..
I will say that I do not think that you are lame for asking, I apologize for the response that you received. Alecto is a good guy and he just may be having a rough day or maybe a few adult libations. Either or, this is a valid question and we all have to take into account that this forum is a really mixed batch of hardcore modders and utter newbies.
I consider no question dumb if asked sincerely.

Not sure how you're gonna get this thing into your intake, but it definately looks like it will increase airflow.
