Navahos must like Escorts because I passed 5-6 while on or near the Rez. Never saw any elsewhere.

Truckers out west seem to drive friendlier than in Texas.

More later.

Except for a section of West Texas where the most road pizza (dead animals) was rabbits, I saw mostly skunks.

The trip home seemed to take less time than the trip out.

Best Western had the nicest rooms, but they cost twice as much; but that could be the area.

I'll try not to take a trip again longer than 400 miles without another driver.

You just need an upgrade to SRT-style seats... most comfortable driving experience we've ever had... but even so... 400 miles all on your own is tough on the keester!

The seat wasn't bad at all. No back, knee, leg, elbows, (us older guys gots lots to ache), or feet pain. What bothered me was the long drives with (I call it ugly, Ashley called it boring), scenery with no towns for hours. It was stupefying.

400 miles all on your own is tough on the keester! I'll be doing ~1400 or better in August when I go from Atlanta to Vermont..straight through, about 18-20 hours...

Sure would be nice to have some Charger or SRT8 seats for that...

I traveled through Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona, back to New Mexico, and Texas. (See, I can spell them out, I don't just know the abbreviations). Pretty much sunny with big puffy white or gray clouds, except for AZ. Never saw a single cloud there. Shortly after crossing back into NM, there they were.

AZ takes them in during the day... otherwise they'd evaporate!

Mo AZ info. I only passed one LX on the trip; a silver Charger R/T on IH17 between Cottonwood and Flagstaff.

Driving out was way more boring than driving home (even though I wasn't ready to be home).

I don't care what direction I was driving; south, west, north, or whatever; The sun was always on my left leg and arm.

I must have good window tint, bacause in 9 days of driving, I never got a sunburn.

Gas was the highest in AZ. Cheapest in TX (except in Pecos).

FM stations weren't that hard to tune in as I thought they would be.

Ashley left a partially full bag of chips [(sour cream and onions), bleah, she didn't get that from me] under her seat. The car was full of little black ants the other day, so I had to take the truck to work.

Cops were thick as fleas on a hound dog Sun., 05/28/06 between Santa Fe and Taos, NM. A mini van flew by me when I was doing 75 in a 60. Minutes, I saw a State Trooper sitting up ahead on my side of the road. I slowed down thinking he was gonna get me, but he stopped the minivan. The Mopar Gods were watching over me.

I don't recall the AZ prices, but it weren't as bad as SoCal. I do remember the least expensive station was just outside Cape Girardeau, MO.

We saw one speed trap coming out of El Paso... couple of cycle officers on an overpass with the guns (radar or lazer - who knows), and patrol cars lined up on the backside on-ramp raring to take out after the offenders. Must have had nearly half a dozen lying in wait.

NM has signs on their 2 lane roads for passing and not passing. Every times the stripes change from passing to no passing, there's one on each side of the road. A yellow triangle one in on the left side of the road and a white one is on the right. Then they have one on the right when it's safe to pass. AZ does the same thing, except no yellow sign on the left. At first I thought it was too "Big Brotherey" and a waste of signs. In TX, we didn't need signs to advise us on where to pass and not pass. After a few days of driving there, I finally came to the conclusion that AZ had it best. You can see the signs a lot further down the road than you can the stripes, so you're better able to tell when to pass and not to pass.

Well... you're the one with the reflections! It was your trip...

Regarding Pass/Don't Pass signs... I thought they were standard highway fare... I know we had them in KS when I was growing up... used 'em all the time to judge whether to stomp on it or not when an apparent slot was coming up.

None in TX.

I use them as indicators as to whether I can sneak a pass in without a ticket.

You have them in WA too? I sort of wish we had them in TX now.

I'll try to make this short and quick. Family and I took the Daytona on its first road trip. Left Denver to Evanston, WY via I-25 and I-80. Then on to Reno and finally San Francisco. Spent a couple of days eating sea food galore and running up and down steep hills . Left San Francisco and took the PCH down to LA for a quick night in Hollywood. Then we drove over to Las Vegas for a night or two of relaxation. Finally an all day drive back to Denver.

Put on almost 3000 miles with me the only one behind the wheel. I can now truely appreciate satellite radio, never was without music or my talk shows. For a little fun, the family kept count of the number of different LX cars we saw from San Francisco down to Las Vegas, 50+ 300's, 17 Chargers, and 16 Magnums. Those 300's are a craze over there!!

Wow what a great route to take a road trip. Sounds like fun.Yes it was! Scenery was great, lots of beautiful country (even when it was barren desert). The PCH and Big Sur was just incredible. If there is one driving trip everyone should take it is that one, (Monterey south to San Luis Obispo). There are so many places to pull over and just take in the scene.

I did the PCH in 1983 with my Mom in a 1980 Subaru GLF-5. First car I had with A/C that worked. Nice handling little car, but it had no power whatsoever. Mom rode practically the whole way holding on to the "Chicken Strap" (Oh $h!t handle) for most of the trip. I'd like to drive it from south to north some day. That way you're not hanging over the beach cliffs. 101 has some nice scenery too, especially north of Petaluma.

I'm running out of thoughts, except to plan next years trip. I may head east this time. I want to see Canada some day as well. I can't believe I lived in CT for 3 1/2 years and only got as far North as Central VT. Oh yeah. I had brought the SC Flashpaq along so I could experiment with different tunes and gas mileage, but the terrain varied so much (read, too lazy to bother) and I was having so much fun (not to mention 22-23 MPG) with the 91 octane tune that I just left it there.

Ok... here's easter ideas...

Ashville, NC .... Builtmore Estate.
Blue Ridge Parkway from Ashville to the VA line... 45 mph of beautiful mountain twisties and overlooks.

Richmond and Williamsburg, VA ... Conferate and Colonial historic sections

Washington D.C. ... lots of stuff the tour there ... Museums, monuments.

Philladelphia ... NYC ... (the rest of the Northeast you should know) so turn upstate and west.

Niagra Falls and Toronto, ONT ... wonderful

Slip back down to Cleveland and visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or the Football Hall of Fame in Akron.

Then continue down I-77 until you can overnight here at the Lindstrom House!

From here head back through KY and visit Mamouth Cave, the Nashville, TN

Then get back home any ol' way!

That will take AT LEAST two weeks!

Sounds good. Thanks. I would have to take Ash to CT if she's along. She wants to see where she was born. We moved to Sicily when she was 3.

Next year she should have a learner's permit and be able to drive :racing: with an adult in the front seat. Don't know if I'll let her or not. My first car was a '68 Dodge also; a Coronet R/T with a 440 and a 727 tranny, 3.91 rear gears with Sure-Grip. It had A/C, but the previous owner disabled it. I didn't care; I was 19 years old.

Growing up in KS, I began to drive at age 14 with a learner's permit. Folks let me drive quite a bit on vacations after I had proved my merit as a good driver. Sometimes, they even slept! LOL

I got my license at 16, but I never got to drive unless it was to take Grampa to the store. The only time I got to go by myself was to band practice.
