Just saw a segment on the Ch 3 Phoenix morning show that the Maricopa County Sheriff's office purchased 8 V8 Charger (RT police package) squad cars. Our illustrious sheriff Joe Arpaio announced that if the officers gave good feedback about the Chargers that the plan was to replace all the old Crown Vics with LXs. The cars are black with gold graphics. I'm sure it will be repeated on the Ch 3 news all weekend.

BLACK cars in PHOENIX? Are they insane?
A buddy of mine lives in Chandler, and he keeps giving me reasons why living in the "Great Desert Southwest" is just fun fun fun in the summer...
But I bet they look pretty sharp with gold highlights...

One police charger spoted in Carefree and one police Magnum seen on I-17 near Carefree Hwy. Both black with a big white stripe on side where the police logo is. No visable lights on top so look out guys.

I saw one of the Chargers on the 202 the other day. It looked VERY menacing. He must of been doing 100MPH in the HOV lane.

They do look good. I'm curious, though, why the Charger is preferred for cruisers over the Magnum? I'd think the officers would welcome the extra storage, but maybe they don't want the cargo area easily accessible from the back seat...

That's one reason. You don't want a "back seat passenger" playing with some of the "toys".

I believe I read that they make it inaccessible for back seat passengers (not sure in what way, most likely a barrier or cage).

The mag is considered a "special service" vehicle, for usage that SUVs normally do.
