View Full Version : At the track and I BUSTED OFF MY GAS PEDAL!!!!!

Third run of the night I did my normal burnout to heat up the slicks....pull up to the line....tree drops and I STOMPED the pedal. Car kind of hesitated off the line and then took off. Rounded the turn at the end of the strip and went to give it some gas and there was no more gas pedal there!!!

I pull off the track and take a look down there and the plastic housing the pedal is attached to busted right off where it mounts to the fire wall. Very cheap looking plastic and pretty thin. I had to grab the housing and pedal w/ my right hand to drive up to a speed where I could then set the cruise the rest of the way home. I'm going to take it into the dealer tomorrow.

So don't get too anxious at the strip and stomp on the pedal too hard!

I'll post pics later when I get off work.

Yea, it has happened before.

At the recent track experience I attended they even had a spare one the used as a demonstrator. They made a comparison to walking in a room and kicking on the light switch... they asked everyone of they thought that would make the light go on faster!

Gentle, no need to STOMP!

That's at least the third instance I've heard of...on this forum! Wonder how many times this has happened elsewhere.

geeze and I though I was the first one to do this! Not really looking forward to going back to the dealer but I need to have them check the trans seal as well. one thing is for sure....they don't make them like they used to! in the old days I'm sure I could have rigged something up to at least make a few more passes. driving home was kind of like drivng a boat w/ a hand throttle! I wonder if they will warranty this??

this is the 3rd case of this that I know of.
While stoming really isn't required, I sure hope the brake arm is stringer because when that pedal gets stomed on it's for a good reason.
My brake pedal in a Dodge Ram van came off a few years back and I went right through a busy intersection, running a headlight and making at least 3 people have to clean their shorts.
We also noticed you can put the Didge van in drive or neutral without touching the brake. Pretty scary. Our neighbors let their kids play in their caravan and those do it too.

There was a recall on my Grand Cherokee for that! (I never took mine in because I like that "feature" when I am off road.) You might be able to get that fixed for free.
