Well I changed the spark plugs on my 05 Chrysler 300 with the 3.5 and the upper manifold had to come off. I completed it but now the EGR tube on the rear of the upper manifold is leaking. Well there is a sucking noise and if I touch it you can feel it sucking air in. This metal tube just fits into a hole on the back of the manifold. There is a blue gasket on the tube and it fits snug. There are indentations around this hole and air is coming in around those indentations. This isn’t suppose to happen right? Any thoughts on what I should do - I didn’t want to remove the manifold again. Im guessing i need to get a new one of those blue gaskets or I really have to bang it in.

Will this affect gas mileage or acceleration?

Thanks
John

I am pretty sure it will effect gas mileage. BTW the plugs are good on the 3.5l for 100k why did you change them? Best to get a new gasket if that is the problem.

you'll need a tube seal P/N 4591250 and a tube gasket P/N 5277928

My sister put a full tank of diesel fuel in. She went to a different gas station and she used the middle nozzle which is usually 89 octane but it was diesel fuel. Even though the nozzle didn’t fit she still filled it up. What a mess - I tried to siphon the gas but didn’t work!! Had it towed back to the house. My mechanic cleaned out the tank but our gas mileage was shot. He didn’t change the plugs or fuel filter. So I changed out the plugs and the mileage is back to normal. My next thing to do is change out the fuel filter. Anyone here do that before?

Thanks for the responses

You can download the service manual (very large)

here http://lx.caliberweb.com/2005-LX-SM.pdf

If you ran the motor I think the cats maybe messed up to. How did she...never mind.

The fuel filter is replaceable only as part of the fuel pump module.

She ran it for about 1 mile until it shut down. Im hoping the cats are fine. I bet they would cost a fortune on this car.

That link is great - it will defiantly come in handy.

The chicken could tell you more about the problems of this unfortunate mistake. Are you throwing any codes?

Nope no codes. I actually replaced the spark plugs about a week ago but just noticed the EGR leak today. I had the hood open and noticed this whistling noise. Going to the dealership to pick up those two gaskets / sealers tomorrow hopefully they will be in stock. And maybe get a couple more miles per gallon.

Since the fuel filter is a part of the pump do you think I could do it in my driveway? So i would have to get a new fuel pump module or just the filter? I dont quite understand this.

unless you have a pressure or flow problem, you migh not need to change it. due to the saddle design of the LX fuel tank, there are two fuel pump modules and each are about $300.00 cdn. the filter is not available seperately. unfortunately, not having changed one for a filter problem, i can't tell you which side it's on. FSM and parts catalog don't specify. maybe one of our mopar vendors can specify the part for you.
