I read this in Sunday's Chicago Tribune Auto Section. This is a quote taken from the article
Challenger, according to Chrysler Group President and CEO Tom LaSorda, grew out of enthusiasts' reaction to the Charger sedan, a sweetheart of the 2005 auto-show circuit. Charger, they recalled, was a coupe in the 1970s, and they questioned its reincarnation as a sedan.
"People thought we had no idea what a muscle car should look like," said Trevor Creed, vice president of product design for Chrysler.
So the Challenger concept goes back to its two-door, muscle-car roots.
"We're taking a serious look at it, but if 250,000 people sent me a $5,000 deposit check, I would build it for sure," LaSorda said (bolding added)
So, where can I send the cash?
