Well we had that thread a little while ago about how old everyone was so I thought i'd start one on what everyone does with their life when they arent on these boards lol.
I've worked at a company called James Hardie Building Products for a little over two years now. We make products such as the tile underlayment, HardiBacker, and fiber-cement siding called HardiPlank, HardiPanel, HardiTrim etc. I work inside retail stores that sell our product, as their Rep.
Before this I worked at Disneyland as a Hot Dog vendor lol.

Served as a technical expert when they came to video tape the interior of the jet. But didnt get any dang credit hahah.

Coming up on my 8th year in the Navy. I am a MM1(SS) nuclear. Spent 5 years on a fast attack submarine after 2 year of nuclear training. Now I am back on shore duty teaching the younglings the ins and outs of operating navy nuclear reactors. Got to qualify something called EOOW which doesnt mean much to you, but means 3-4 times the pay when I get out of the navy in 545 days and go work as a senior reactor operator at a commercial nuclear power plant.
Here is a link to my pictures of what a fast attack submarine looks like on deployment... if you are bored.

I've been a Naval Aircrewman and a rescue Swimmer for the Navy now going on 13.5 years. I do everything from sitting in the back of the helo, bored out of my mind, to flying low at night on goggle doing specops missions, ship takedowns, hunting submarines with a dipping SONAR, to the occassional rescue mission. No I don't have any rescues, the Navy's become too same, LOL.
Currently I supervise 24 staff and 65 students at a fleet replacement school, teaching the young sailors how to "properly" operate in the back of our helo's. They can be a pain sometimes. I have about 6 more years until I retire. Who know's what I'll do when I actually have to work for a living.

well,I currently work for Johnson Controls, building the seats for the LX cars. I have been there since June of this year.
Before that,I used to work for KTH,which is a part supplier for the large Honda plant in Alliston,On,and we built all the frame/chassis components. I was there 4 months, and within 3 weeks,I got tendonitis in my wrist, was on medical leave for a month, worked there till the end of April and was fired due to a heated argument with quality control.
Before that,I spent a year and a half at an auto peformance shop (www.cpracing.ca) specializing in Mazda rotary engines,Nissan KA and SR engines and swaps, custom chassis bracing (strut bars, roll cages, steering racks),custom building flush headlight kits for cars with popups. I painted all the finished products, did all the pre-assembly metal work (cutting, drilling etc),and did R&D work. I left at the end of '04,and now, these guys currently have the contract with Tuner Transformation, and they're the guys who do all the work on the cars. To date, they have done the Cobalt and the Eclipse, while others like the Element were done in California.
Then....as a summer job while I was still in school,I worked in the HVAC trade as a general labourer with a small HVAC company. I did lots of ductwork installation and stuff. It was pretty cool. If I decide to go to college or anything,I'll most likely go ito the HVAC trade. However,I'm more than content building LX seats!

Handle mainly family law issues from birth to death and everything in between. I do a lot of Mediation, Arbitration and Domestic Case Management as well. My first summer job for several years was as a home based car detailer, then I moved on to working at a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge & GMC Truck dealership in high school and 1st 2 years of college. I manage several local non-profits with an emphasis on providing scholarships to local youth.

Absolutely fascinating to see such a wide variety of professions all brought together as a family on an internet website no less. Professions I would never have imagined had it not been brought to light.
What I was surprised about was the absence (unless I misread some) mass transit workers. ie: train operators/bus drivers/taxi drivers....and even federal/state employees such as waste refuse drivers/collectors, postmen/women, etc.
Great stuff, keep it up everyone! That's what makes this country go round.

I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree last year, just before I turned 50. I took 4 years off of work to do this. It did hurt my head, though.

For 12 years before that I was a fabricator and mechanic in the off-road race industry (Baja type stuff). I got to work for both factory Ford and Chevy teams as a head mechanic and rode as a co-driver in the trucks.
Other jobs through the years included janitor, farm hand, rail road laborer, floral designer, instructor at Bondurant School of Driving, kids' entertainer at World of Wheels shows and a couple of other jobs that I have probably forgotten.

Elixir..........your right in that you can't take it with you.
I really preferred riding my motorcycle(s) a side benefit was I could travel further on the same amount of money,my favorite m/c ride lasted 13,500 miles and 9 weeks.Got above the Artic Circle on that one, nothing but good memories riding my Honda XL350 on that ride.
I kinda got my first car when I got invovled as a big brother and the boy I was dealing with got a sister and I couldn't take them both places on the motocycle. So thats why I bought my first car and now the kids I big brothered are grown up and seeing that I'm doing volunteer work with a couple cat rescue groups around here I needed more space to haul kitties. My little Saturn SL1 was getting old,an 1992 model, and 180,000 miles.
Retirement was the best thing I ever did, other than volunteer as a Big Brother......oh and bought a Hemi

I guess this ties the hijacked posts back to the topic "what you do for a LIVING"
2 sides to every story:
WORK is a four letter word to some --
from an employer's perspective, survival of the "company" is one of the ultimate goals.
Non-productive components will cause a company to fail --
I know it looks callous, non-compassionate, etc. but it's a reality companies have to face.

Do I read the possibilities of Large Screen Plasma Group Buy?!?!?! How many would we need to get on board? I want the biggest LG you offer. A friend of mine at MicroSoft just bought one of yours in the 60+ inch range. So, uh, really, any chance for a group buy through some of your contacts???
Daniel454
01-05-2006, 09:18 AM
No, unfortunately I work on the service side, and my contacts on the sale side are at the corporate level not the retail level, so they would be no help.
I get a few employee discount buys a year, but not enough to even think about a group buy, besides, I imagine corporate woudnt like me selling things that way.
However, I have been able to get a couple of my friends a good deal from time to time, anybody want to be my friend? (J/K)

This may sound kinda humorous but I work at a grocery store, Woodmans to be exact. I'm sure pretty much anyone in the WI/IL area has heard of us. And not just any grocery store though, I work at the largest non-bulk grocery store in the country! May not sound like much but let me tell ya, working with an employee owned company sure does have it's advantages, I make damn good money for being 20 yrs old.

Nothing wrong with working in grocery. Without grocery stores we'd all be hungry. At least you're not on welfare or living on the streets. You've still got your whole life ahead of you to make different career choices if you want. This may sound kinda humorous but I work at a grocery store, Woodmans to be exact.
