Two journalist were on Autoline Detroit this morning talking about the Challenger. The one from Autoweek said DC is getting an unprecedented amount of feedback through emails, letters and phone calls on a car that has not even debuted yet as a show car. They said GM has taken notice and is trying to get a Camaro show car done in time for Detroit also. The future is looking good. It will be nice not only to eat Mustangs for lunch but have Camaros for desert.

As much as I am looking forward to the Challenger, it would be silly to think that Chevy will not offer a fire breathing Camaro to go up against the SRT-8 and Shelby's. Being that I am both a HUGE Camaro fan, as well as a classic MOPAR muscle fn, my checkbook is very scared of 08/09 (now I just to figure out which one I will buy first :0)

The one thing that has limited the Camaro recently is marketing. The Chevy marketing people have to make sure the Camaro isn't as fast the base Corvette so they keep the power down slightly.

Chrysler doesn't have that restriction since the next step up from the Challenger is the Viper which is at Z06 levels of power.

I don't think Chevy would care about keeping the Camaro under the performance of the base Corvette, they didn't care for the GTO, the GTO comes with the same engine as the base vette for about $12k less.

Couldn't hurt to keep this "unprecedented response" going...

If ya haven't done it, do it! If ya have done it, thanks - now do it again! :thumbs_u:

???

the GTO is about 1/2 second slower in the 1/4 mile than the Corvette!

Again, the Camaro will not be as fast as the Corvette

Ahh, but remember, the current 'Vette will most likely not be as fast as the 'Vette of 2009. Rumor is a 6.2 liter 450+ mill for the base vette. If that is the case, the Camaro can tread mighty close to the vette's hp, 500 or so lbs. makes a significant difference in ET's.

I don't expect the hemi to stay at the same power levels for 5 years. And it still doesn't change the basic relationship. There will be a base Corvette that will have to be faster than the Camaro. There is no base Viper, at least not yet, that would hold the Challenger down.

I would imagine that by 2009 the 6.1 will be over 450HP as well unless there is another oil crunch. But if that happens the whole performance industry will go dormant again.

If they can figure out how to control emmisions on the Semi-Hemi. That engine is a dirty pig for emissions.
