Please explain the terms "backhaffing" and "tubbing". I understand that they refer to body mods, but exactly how. Why woud a 4 link suspension be better than the IRS we now have?

Well this is pretty much a 'Pro-Street' or Drag only mod.
Backhalfing means cut up the rear half of the vehicle uniframe and install a metal tubing chassis similar to a drag racing chassis. The rear four links setup is the best known rear suspension config for straight line acceleration. Not much else.

If I was going to do nothing but dragracing and I was richer than Croesus , sure!
Otherwise...not much point in it.
A lot of super-serious modding for less street usefulness...

Yeah, but it would be soooo cool! I am running 18X33's on my 23 T and I've often fantasized about swapping.Just don't tell Mrs'dude

A nice 4 link suspension, tubbed, with an agressive lowered stance would look sick..I have thought about this.I need to find an SE I can afford.Maybee a flood car from down south if the money is right. The only big problem is because of the year you still need all your emisions.Basicly though I see it done as a Sedan Delivery with a set of Very large rear tires.I would probably use a set of steamroller 20's.Then stick a 6.4 up front with a blower.

No Tub.. tubbed means cutting out the rear inner sheet metal wheel wells, fabbing and then welding in new sheet metal with a much W I D E R area for wider rear tires.

Hemi31, gotta to tell you. I been having the same delusions, get SE, massive modes, shortened ford 9", 4 link. micky's, chop and channel the lid couple inches, the biggest fricking motor I can fit and a giant huffer poking through the hood. What da ya think?.

I say we go in halves, find an SE from Louisianna, weld the back doors shut, close in the rear windows, stretch the rear wheelwells,20 inch wide rear tires, and just for S**** & Giggles I got that nice 354 I was planning on making a blower motor out of anyway.

Done, tell ya what, I got a big enclosed trailer and all the right fabracation equipment for the task at hand. We'll meet in Tulsa when they dig out that car. Set up some easy-ups and make like a over-hauling episode. Maybe grinner will film it, make us fame-ass

Maybe grinner will film it, make us fame-assYeah,ass being the key word.I have been looking for a salvage car though.I figure if I can find an SE for under 5k I can do it realistically.A crate or salvage 6.1 would probably be the way to go.The car would probably weigh in around 2900lbs when done and I figure between 456's to 488's in the rear, and a GS blower should put it in the mid 8's to low 9's in the quarter and still be almost street legal.

Tubular chassis, channel the bod. Good luck on a salvage 6.1. I have posted with every salvage yard parts place I could find looking for a SRT8 anything to pick up. I really wished I lived some place with out tree huggers. In Cali if you got to much dust on your ride it ain't street legal anymore.

How do you think I feel?I live in the Adirondack Park. The next state over is Vermont,I don't want to talk about tree huggers.

ya well at least you get fresh maple sugar candy. Here you can't even hike around for fear of stepping on the California sage bush (protected) or disturbing the dreaded kangaroo rat habitat, or !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Nope, already getting fat sitting at this stinking desk (damn forum).

KGBpro: I've looked at it for hours (or would that be six packs?) the geometry would not make it that difficult. And it would look BADDDDDDDDDDDDD!. You the man with mods, go for it!. By the way, nice ride!.
