We haven’t seen such excitement over a car since the Chrysler 300 knocked the competition on its collective rear quarter panels. Still a month before we take the wraps off the Dodge Challenger concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, there’s no holding back the groundswell demanding we build a production version of the sucker. And that’s just after a sketch we released and some muddy spy photos that have filtered out! Imagine the roar once the real thing makes its debut.
As proof of the clamor for the Challenger, Ken Juran, online automotive editor at Popular Mechanics, called our attention to the passion expressed by the magazine’s online readers.
Here’s a sampling:

*That is the hottest thing that came from Detroit since the muscle car era ended in the early 1970s...please build it, I am so sick of Mustangs being the only pony cars now.
*Dodge needs to come out with one of these with the 6.1 Hemi so we can go mop up those lousy Fords. Final word: Love it and please build it.
*Market the Challenger as a 2- door sporty car just like the Mustang. DC has more than enough four- door cars for people with families.
*Love this car!!! I just hope that the production apple doesn't fall far from the concept tree.
*It's time to give us what we want. This is what we want DODGE!!!!
*Finally!!! The car I have been waiting for my whole life....
*Dodge should do one thing that Ford refuses to do - make the back seat accommodate 3 people.
*MUY BUENA, EXCELENTE !!!!
*Guys check out www.allpar.com (http://www.allpar.com/) for the spy photos...oh my god...i need to change pants
*Sex on wheels
*This is where the HEMI belongs!! I WANT ONE BAAAAAAAAAAD!

Build it with the 6.4L 392cu engine and I'll buy it. Wife already gave me the nod. Hurry up and build it already. I want my black with Gold race strips.

Can't wait to see the Detroit Auto Show debut!

I won't get one b/c i already have a '70 Challenger 'vert and a '71 Barracuda, but it's awesome the Challenger will once again roam the streets looking for playmates on the street and dragstrip.

WIth the amazing reaction to the concept vehicle illustration, and the subsequent spy shots, I sure hope that Dodge brings it to fruition and puts it in our hands.

It's gotta be better than the Dodge Challenger & Plymouth Sapporo (78 - 83) model

. . . remember them? lol

Please oh please make it big enough for me. LOL! I would love to have a sporty car with a stick. I am sure that with the reaction they are getting, the car will be built and maybe even sooner than expected.

AND: Put that sucker on a diet. No more than 3500 lbs!

Sound like they are just as eager to give it to us.

I won't be getting one but I sent an email asking them to build it. (Just trying to help the cause.)
I can't wait to be jelous of you people that do get one!

3500 is probably a pipe dream unless they really strip it and cheap out on the seats, etc.. I think 3750 is achievable, though, and if coupled w/ the 6.4 mega-hemi, that extra 250 lbs won't be a problem. :thumbs_u:

Man - imagine that - half a foot shorter in wb, a few hundred pounds lighter on the scales, and a 50% increase in HP with a 6 spd stick... That sucker's gonna be down right perky!

I hadn't thought about those cars for 20 years!

The original silent shaft.

...coupled w/ the 6.4 mega-hemi...

Sorry, nothing of value here, but it just struck me as funny that we're classifying a 387ci engine as a "mega-hemi".

I really hate to say it but I doubt they'll use the 6.4, anyway. DC strikes me as bent on parts commonality. Either that or a 6.4 would be an ultra-limited, uber-expensive SRT+ kinda car thats out of my budget range. But I can hope, and I'd love to be wrong.

Well, I was speaking of "mega" in relation to the HP it generates, not the CID.

I guess this whole 6.4L thing isn't really clear to me at this point. I really can't see a motor with that kind of performance being a widely available, high-volume piece. On the other side of the coin though, I really don't see them investing the R&D dollars to develop the 6.4L and then offer it exclusively as a crate motor either...

I don't expect it to be mass produced like the 6.1. But they should use it for special models like a Challenger that beats the GT500.

It's actually a 392, same displacement as the biggest of the old Hemis (~'57-'58).

I think the 6.4 would fit in the Imperial quite nicely sure would spank the cadillacs

I would imagine two very different versions. One would have a mild cam to develop max torque at low RPM. That one could be used in the Imperial and maybe even a new SRT truck.

The other version would have a big cam and develop crazy HP at high RPM. It could even be used for a new Viper or Firepower.
