View Full Version : Challenger e-mail campaign

Alright folks, it's time to start the Challenger e-mail campaign. One of the articles on the Challenger concept states point blank that the build/no-build decision will be made based in part on public reaction to the concept. So... let's react, LX enthusiasts! Now before you start flaming me about how ineffective this will be - I don't want to hear any of that negativity! I will have you know that I wrote DCX an e-mail per month between August, 2001 and January, 2004 begging them to build the Charger, and ya know what happenend? THEY BUILT IT!

So here goes... Follow the link, indicate your interest in the concept in a 2-sentence e-mail, and in 18 months we'll have our Challengers!

This was my message

As the current owner of a 1968 HEMI Charger R/T, 1969 Charger (my 1st car bought in 1980) and '04 HEMI Durango SLT AWD and many other Mopars over the last 25 years I am asking you to please build the Challenger. For me the current Charger was a bit of a disappointment because it is a 4 door. I also own an '02 Firebird as a daily driver and have been looking at the new Mustang to replace it. If I need a 4 door I will drive my Durango but I prefer a performance coupe for most of my driving. If you build it, I will buy one.

Judging from the personal response I received and others on the forum it does appear a real person is reading the request and is sincere in acknowledging them. Someone at DC is saying "OMG, we have not even debuted the car and we are getting request to build it". Just think what might happen when it officially debuts. I know people over on the MML (Mopar Mailing List) are organising a get together time at Detroit to show interest in the Challenger as a group.

I belong to a Mustang forum also and for the most part it is getting a favorable mention there. Yes there are some "Ford only" guys that are taking shots but the people who like nice cars no matter who makes them love it also. Some have even mention trading in their Mustang for one. There are some "Mopar" people over there that have Mustangs because Chrysler has completely ignored this market. Hell I owned a Firebird because they did not make a comparable product.

I done did it. I've never been so pumped about a (possible) upcoming production car in my life. I still remember being bummed out 31 years ago the day I read that Dodge Challenger/Plymouth Barracuda production was being halted in the middle of the 1974 model year. It's been a very long wait, but the new retro Mustang came out in 2005, and history may be repeating itself as we see a new Challenger and a new Camaro emerge to compete with it. The muscle car wars are already back, with the GTO vs the Charger/300C/Magnum-now maybe the pony car wars are back as well!

I am so glad I have held out, had I not heard that a 2 door was in planning stages, the Daytona Charger would have been in my garage now. The only kicker to this, I have to drive my damn Chevy until this is released. Ironic, I sell Mopar parts, and drive a Chevy. The only reason, no Mopars have lit a fire under my ass like this Challenger does. I was about to settle with the Daytona Charger, but now I will save a few penny's and play the waiting game.

I just got done posting almost the same point on another forum.....Chrsyler's LX cars being 4 door large capacity cars weighing 4000+ pounds is one thing, but the challenger should be on par with the Shelby Mustang and possible future Camaro with regards to weight. It's a 2 door pony car it afterall. I know the 6.1 is underrated but still they'll have to put the 392ci hemi in it to keep up.

They'll be doing good to save 3 or 4 hundred pounds without going exotic on materials.

Thus our baby will still be a heavyweight.

If they can shave 300-400 pounds and get it around 3600-3700lbs that would be acceptible in my eyes to compete with SVT Mustang or Camaro.
