View Full Version : A couple of questions for those that have installed springs themselves

Ok, I am finally installing my lowering springs on my magnum on Wed night.
I got couple of questions for those that have done this
-I will be using external spring compressors for the fronts, do you need the compressors for the rear, or can you simply lower the control arms enough to get them out without the use of the compressors.
If you did use the spring compressors on the rears, did you use the same for the rears as for the fronts
-The instructions show a special tool for the nut on the strut, do you really need this? I'm betting not.
-Any special hints that may save my brother and I time
-We will be using a lift, and air tools...yessssssss!
-I have printed and read the thread the the KB
Tools I plan on having at hand
-spring compressor
-ball joint puller
-lift
-a whole shop of wrenches and the like.
ohhh so excited, and even though they have been posted before, plenty of pics to come
Thanks in advance for any info

I got couple of questions for those that have done this
-I will be using external spring compressors for the fronts, do you need the compressors for the rear, or can you simply lower the control arms enough to get them out without the use of the compressors. No compressor needed in the back - once you unbolt the lower control arm from the chasis and slowly release the pressure with your jack - they come right out. You'll have 'em out quickly in the back - hard part is to get the bolt holes lined up again on re-assembly - it takes some clever jack guiding and sneaker pushing....
If you did use the spring compressors on the rears, did you use the same for the rears as for the fronts
-The instructions show a special tool for the nut on the strut, do you really need this? I'm betting not. - No - I used a vise grip with a piece of rubber tubing on the shock shaft to prevent the shaft from turning (and being scarred). Once the spring pressure is released the nut came off pretty easily
-Any special hints that may save my brother and I time - Make sure you position the front springs on exactly the same way back into the strut assembly - mine was off a few degrees and I had to take it apart again to re-align
Don't try and turn the lower front strut nut to remove the strut - its welded on - you have to undo the bolt! OK - it was dark down there and stupid is as stupid does. All I kept thinking is "Damn this thing is tight!"
-We will be using a lift, and air tools...yessssssss!
-I have printed and read the thread the the KB

-lift
-a whole shop of wrenches and the like. - Make sure they are metric.

Good luck - and may your corners end quicker!

The only hard part was lining up the rear bolt holes. Other than that pretty straight forward. Good luck Kevin

What springs are you using and do they work with the Daytona suspension?

I needed spring compressors for the rears myself... didn't get as lucky as the other guy. I used the same ones on the front.
