A six speed manual tranny with pistol grip? Yeah.....I can see the threads now:
"Tranny swap?" Some people will get the manual, but not know how to drive stick, and then see if some poor LXer in his Charger/300/Magnum wants to trade an auto for a manual.
Or the other thread "Will that 6sp fit in our cars?" Hopefully the answer to that question is a "hell yeah". I miss my manual transmission.
It is one sweet looking ride too. I noticed they only mention the 6.1 in the article. Does that mean that the SRT8 version gets that mean looking 500HP Hemi that was shown at SEMA?

that's what i was thinking too... that maybe it's too retro. Anyone want to venture to make any guesses as to what the price would be? Is it possible they'd offer the 6.1 as the base engine for under 30K? And the 5.7 under 25K? Wowowowowow. Please don't wake me up guys, let me dream a little longer.

I love the look of the new Challenger, what I did not like is when they made the Charger a 4-door sedan.
The Charger is nice, but I grew up knowing it as a 2-door coupe.
When I bought my Magnum, I was telling this to the salesperson and he told me that next year look out for the new Challenger, where it is staying true to it's heritage as a two door coupe.
I'm in no way saying that the Charger is not a beautiful car, just not what I grew up to know.

I cannot believe how much this car looks like the 1970 Challenger RT that I owned back in the early 70's. So much, in fact, that I had to do a double take to make sure it was not a 70's Challenger with a new grill and wheels.

It is obvious that they will build it. Now, I wonder why the Chrysler 300 web site has a section under compare specifcations for roofs? A convertible must be coming. I wonder where they are going to build all of the cars - add on to Brampton or bring a second factory on line?

First of all, please let this not be a photoshop. Secondly, will this shut up all the 'Chargers have 2-doors' discussion. Lastly, Ford and GM - please take notice, when a domestic maker 'get's it right' and gives us what we want we will buy it and we've got the money to pay what it's worth. Notice how Daimler's latest incentive offers do not apply to 300's, Magnums and Chargers?

Can DC ever win?Now hold on a sec. This would seem to infer that I have complained at some point about the Charger's looks. That has simply never happened. In fact I think the new Charger is a truly worthy descendant of the original. I expressed my opinion about the photo that was posted. That was all. That's what a forum is for. Get your facts straight before disparaging anyone.

Sorry, didn't mean you personally. I guess I shouldn't have said "same guys". More of a feeling of "the new chargers suck cuase they're not like the original" that we all hear, and now "new challenger sucks cause it looks like the old one". The solution is real simple, we can just buy one of the othe DC models that we do like. Certainly did not mean to cast disparaging remarks about anyone in particular. Except Adaptable who I'm sure will chime in soon. heh

While my wife was in South Dakota, she and her sister rented a Town & Country minivan. She said she would get one if we had another baby. My plan was to get her pregnant, take the Magnum, get her the T&C. Change of plans. Now, get her pregnant, TRADE the Magnum for a T&C, trade the truck, get the Challenger.
Anyone have an idea on what one may cost? I'll guess 35K-40K. :(

Let me summarize the Autoweek Boards for the Charger release: It's too different! They changed it too much and (of course) it should have 2 doors.
and know for the challenger:
It's too retro, it should look different than the original blah blah. Just like stocks, the market is always wiser than those sitting in peanut gallery. Come on Dodge build it and let your sales #'s do the talking.

11-21-2005, 08:06 PM
I may be wrong but how many "Show only prototypes" do you see outside? Maybe this car is further along than DC has lead us to believe. Remember not that long ago they said "no 2 doors" are in the works. Then word comes out they are planning a new Challenger. Now spy pics of what appears to be a working prototype. If they can keep this in the price range and multiple models of the Charger (SXT, R/T, SRT8) they will sell everyone they can make. If they make lower price models for people who want the look w/o the cost of HP, building more will help bring down the cost of the of the R/Ts and SRT8s. My fear at this point is that it will strictly be a high HP, high priced muscle car that most cannot afford. If they make an R/T at about 30K I will buy one. If all they make is an SRT8 approaching 40K I will buy a Mustang. They finally got the look right now lets see if they price it right.
I am now so impatient about this car I changed my sig.

Interesting about the creatingthelie.com images. That guy came out with those drawings early on and everybody pretty much ... uh... messed themselves over them. Now we see basically that very concept brought very faithfully to life. First thing I did when I saw the pics was head over to that site and compare them to the pics. Front spoiler is on the drawings but not the concept. Grille is different. Taillights are different. The drawings have Viper-size tires.
I've got an aftermarket grille on Darth. I'll bet you a dollar 'they' come up with something for the Challenger. And I'll bet they put a front spoiler on the SRT.
I said after my last car that there was no way I was ever going to take the depreciation hit on a new car again. Then I saw the Magnum.

An exact replica with modern internals, fuel effeciency, and safety is axactly what I would buy. Why mess with something so appealing? That is exactly how I feel. I am fortunate enough and have worked hard enough to be able to buy an old muscle car, but haven't and don't want to. To me, the old Superbirds and Barracudas are very nice, and I owned a 1970 AMX (also now a DCX ancestor). The suspension, brakes and safety equipment are primative and those cars are too valuable to drive very often.
While I certainly could drive a car with a manual transmission, I sure would hate to do so in southern CA. As it is, my right leg sometimes starts to hurt from working the brake and throttle in traffic, so I don't want to also have an aching left leg from working the clutch! It would be unfortunate if they do not offer an automatic as an option.

I think I will start warming the wife up to this... I've got a little time. I deffinetly love the looks of this thing.
Only thing about it though is everywhere I have read says it is modeled after the 1970 model, but from the looks of it it is a 1971. The rear end looks really close to the 1970 as you can see below. But the front end looks like a 1971. I had a 1970 Challenger before and I have been looking for another one to get. 1970 is my favorite year of the Challengers, I just wish this thing had the front of the 1970, it is difference that I liked over the 71's.

Still, some folks at Allpar are saying "too retro!" Man, there's no pleasing some people. :doh:How can a challenger look too much like a challenger? at least you know what you are looking at! Modern purple with ta stripe, shaker hood and a pistol grip six speed Wow!

A six-speed manual in the Challenger, you say!?! Well then, Mrs. Drumlugr's next car could very well be a Magnum R/T.

Does anyone know if there's a 6 speed manual in the Daimler parts bin? Seems like quite a bit of engineering for a single model of a modular platform?

Wonder what pricing should be since it will be in competition with the mustang.

Is the Dodge Challenger concept car faithful its muscle car roots? That question should be settled by comparing the sketch of the 2006 Challenger Concept car to be unveiled in January in Detroit with a photo of the vintage 1970 Challenger.

Man, if I was rich, this would be in my stable. I've never been able to have more than 2 vehicles at the time until now, but one of them is a ATV.

I'm thinking about making the Challenger the 4th vehicle in my stable - now I just have to figure which of the four will reside outside of my 3 car garage...

That sound clip says that there are currently no plans to produce it. I sure hope that that is wrong info.
If they do build it, it will become vehicle #6 in my stable and I will order it the day they announce it will produced, if that ever happens.

LOVE is... maybe a soft top too???... it could easly take the place of my sl600, this car would be fantastic, BUILD IT.
I had a '72 Challenger medium green metalic 26 years ago, with a really ugly green vinyl and burlap interior but loved that car... traded it for a Shelby Charger, wow that was a long time ago.

Man...my Magnum is history.... I HAVE to have one of these. The only thing that would stop me is if they do a retro of the mid 60's Barracuda.
I can't see how ANYONE can say this is an ugly car or that its TOO retro. I think it's perfect and as a matter of fact it should only be offered up in colors used in the 70's on the Challengers.
No one that's ever owned a Ford should be allowed to buy one. (Just kidding) ;)
DCX finally got ONE right!
Yes I WILL buy one!

If I didn't have a kid and plannin' on another one shortly....the new challenger would have to be mine too! But I think I'll have to bite the bullet and buy another daddy mobile, but atleast get the SRT8 Mag this time :)
