Come to find out that my stereo woofers and amps are not covered... Thank you Allstate for not alerting me to thins although I specifically told them I needed to insure the compionents and they said they were when I got the car.

My bad for not verifying again in writing... I am a complete idiot...

My deductible is $500 so I pay for the new window at $209 and the repairs to the pillars up to $500.

I have found out thru several of my friends over the years, that none of the insurance agencies cover aftermarket stereos. There may be a handful that will, but its really hard to get the money out of them, you'd need boxes, reciepts AND recent (dated) photos of the merchandice....

Sucks you had to find out this way, hopefully the a$$hat who stole your system gets caught....

I had a car broken into once.....Just once.

Sorry, I had to do the Johnny Dangerously thing.

I had someone break into my car and steal the radar detector. I had another car that was broken into and they tried to steal the car alarm. Funny thing about that was the alarm was set but never went off. I must have turned on a light and scared them away because it was hanging down from it's mounting bracket.

The feeling of violation sucks worse than haveing to replace the stolen parts.

What I hate most, other than all the money out of my pocket is the fact I have no recourse nor any real way of preventing this in the future. Alarm or no alarm, no matter which type, if they want it badly enough they get the goods.

I always turn my stereo off 1 mile before I get to where I am going... And make sure no one is following me or watching me as I park.

DANG!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that bro....I too believe that the violation is worse than getting the stuff stolen...it can always be replaced but you will be burned with just the thought of someone messing up your car.....it happened to me twice already but years ago...Next time get a good pager alarm that has atleast a 1/4 mile range so you can catch them bastards in the act!!!

Either way if these guys want it they will take it....no alarm will stop them. Hate to hear way happened and now I'm going to call allstate and add every mod to my policy now that you have said this....

Good luck!!!!

Something else to watch is that you have an INSTALL recipte. If you install it they wont cover it as well.

My mom works for Allstate, so I get warned about stuff like that :) If you told you agent that you needed to make sure you had coverage of your UPGRADED system, and he told you that it was covered then you need to talk to him about that.

Also that will typically fall under your home owners / renters insurance and is fairly limited in the aspect and $$ of what it will cover.

I'll see if I can get my mom to type up something like a " Questions to ask your Agent" sheet.

wow man, sorry to hear that your car got broken into :(
I had my system stolen out of my 1996 Nissan Pathfinder like 2 years ago. Thieves stole 5 7" tvs, my eclipse head, 3 JL 12w6's, 7 kenwood 4 way 6x9s, 4 kenwood tweeters, and all of the custom mounts. I was parked on the top floor of a parking garage...the "uninstall" had to take the guys at least 2 hours. Had to.

For future reference, ask your insurance company about "riders insurance". It's an add-on to your policy that protects "custom components" and any other items left in your vehicle. My pathfinder had $13,000 of riders and it was like $20/mo more.

Since I cannot afford to replace the equipment which was stolen, VTR Racing, the shop who is sponsoring me is looking into making my car not only their Demo car for all car shows but also getting ARC Audio http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/index.htm to comp a full Amp and Speaker system into Dirty Girl.

VTR is the only authorized dealer in the area and the chances are very good this will work out.

My part of the bargain... Have VTR and ARC decals on the car, have my car available for all community events and autoshows, man their booth at all events.

In my opinion, a small price to pay for all the service.

I am still taking Dirty Girl in to get lowered with the Eibach springs I have had since last month, install Hotchkis sway bars I have had since last month, install the Dynotech SuperMaXX header/hi-flow cats, and Borla exhaust which I have had in my hands for over a month.

they are looking into a pager system for me in the car as well as an alarm light and proximity/motion/vibration sensor. They believe they can jack it into the stock security system, (Security system term is used loosely).

In my last car I had 12k worth of electronics stolen... StateFarm doesn't cover them in your base insurance but you can get additional coverage for them added on. Luckily for me it was at the dealer getting some work done at the time.

We think it was an inside job because they didn't arm the alarm and they parked it in just right spot on their lot that the lights didn't shine on it. Their insurance covered it but I did have to provide all my reciepts.

in order for mine to be covered, sound system/video and all, i had to take out about $30k supplemental insurance on top of my car insurance...$4k a year for everything (bundled with life insurance) for a 20 year old that hardly ever drives the car...but at least i have the peace of mind knowing that if the whole car is ever taken im not totally out.

i really sorry to hear about your story and i hope everything turns out ok...seems like you have a good deal going with that company for you

best of luck

Wow!!!! That sounds great!!! Good luck with that!!! I think it is a small price to pay considering I do that for a living!!!

About the pager system....look into Compustar....also Viper/Clifford are good alarms...(DEI products)..

"stock security system".....yeah right!! ever and all "stock security systems" are keyless entry only!!!!! there is no alarm in the car!!!

Just got the car back from the glass shop... dang the scratched pillar and interior ticks me off!!!

Stopped by VTR, Going for the ARC premium amps for the subs and individual speakers, using 10" flatline d4 Arc woofers.

I am also installing a new security system with page and all the beels and whistles.

Less than $2k including install and tax. Complete package with custom install (a whole lot of labor and custom work) would have been over $3k.

All will be warrantied and guaranteed. All I have to do is be available for community events, car shows, and have their decals on the side rear cargo windows... I think I can live with that.

BTW, that you all for your support, you guys ROCK!

Allstate has an option on their auto insurance, option ZA , which you pay extra for. You can have up to 2500 of coverage, which does not cover everything, but it's a start. Other companies have an Electronics coverage option as well. Feel free to pm me and I am happy to answer questions as best I can.

dude, if your car was home, the after market stuff is totally covered under your home owner's insurance. Don't let em weezle out of paying you. If you have pics/reciepts they are covered anyway.
Insurance companies blow as much as thieves do.

sigh.... I can dream can't I?

too bad the "trunk monkey" wasn't available.
Sucks to hear that, been there too. At college, someone tried to steal my Nakamichi deck I installed myself (bolted the back of the unit to the firewall), didn't do much but snap the faceplate off. Was able to get the deductible covered by some other fast talking.

get a alarm with a pager on the remote also airhorns under the hood will scare most away, backup battery for alarm also make sure everything gets bolted down with antitheft screws.

you could always run a hot wire from the alarm to the body.
give em a little ZAP!

I got one of them cheapo alarms with builtin siren that senses power draw and impact with a backup battery in it. One time at bandcamp, we had a rash of breakins here at the apts. 6 cars got broken into, the ones on both sides of me at that. At the time all I had was those blinking LEDs that look like alarms, one where the light sensor for the auto headlights would be and then one on each side of the HU. They didnt even touch mine, not bad for $20 of LEDs.

One thing there about the ARC Audio stickers, they are just another invite for a break in. What I have done in the past is take that clingon tint and put the stickers on it, then put it on the windows for shows. I know the shop may give you a hard time about that, but I wonder if they will replace anything if it is hit again. At one time there was an insurance company that would not cover any damage from a stereo steal, including glass and body damage if the car had stickers advertising audio companies. That was a long time ago and I cant rememeber who it was.

As for the anti-theft screw/boltheads, back when I used to install, I replaced a customers equiptment with those screw heads that have the indented squares. Of course he got broken into again, this time the equiptment was there, they couldnt get any of it out and pissed them off. They took a screwdriver and stuck in the cd slot and turned it to bust up the headunit, poked holes in all the speakers, shorted the amp power lines, slashed the seats and tires. They left a note "If we cant have it then neither will you".

Had a engineering buddy of mine wire one up and put a cage around the connectors for the inputs....several break ins and still have the speakers. Might I add there is a little light near them when they were triggered.

Damn thieves. If some of them would work as hard at a legitimate job as they do stealing, they might get more out of it. Did that make any sense? People like that probably have a history of this and will be caught. Hope it's by somebody tough enough to send to the hospital (I was gonna say morgue, but this is a family site). Definitely hit up your homeowners insurance for a claim. They should cover it.

Sorry to hear about the break-in, I get so angry and would beat the living sh*t out someone if I caught them.

I once got broke into for a freaking Tazmainian Devel stuck in my window. They broke the window left the amp which was not bolted down, and took ol' Taz.

I have always liked Grinner's plan, give them a 5 second warning them zap em, I think 5k volts should do.

I'm not a violent man but violate me or my family, you better hide reeeel good, cause I'm coming for ya!!!

Sorry to hear about your car. I got a top of the line deck swiped about 20 years ago. Since then I keep everything "stock looking" so the thieves don't want it. My system looks stock but sounds really good. I hope the cops catch the bastards that did this. Good luck!!!

Upon further review I noticed last night that the thieves got my wheel lock socket for my 20" Forte Rims... So this morning I went to Discount Tire and had the locks busted off and purchased new ones with a differetn size (larger) and special pattern. Hopefully that will put a wrench in their works when they come back.
