View Full Version : Cats (feline) on my Magnum

Where I live, there are a ridiculous amount of both stray and owned cats. As an example, I threw my trash inthe dumpster the other and literally 20 cats jumped out of the can scaring the hell out of me. With it getting colder, these evil animals are sleeping on my magnum. I'm looking at my magnum and there are muddy prints ALL over it. In addition to making it dirty all the time, i'm worried that these things will scratch my beautiful 1 1/2 month old baby. Can anyone think of a solution. So far, I let my 1 year old 85 lb. boxer "Roscoe" loose to wreak havoc nightly. As gratifying as that is, its not really effective. My next solution is to use some of Meh-hee-ko's finest M-80's and BlackCats left over from the 4th of july. I NEED HEELLLPPP!!!!!

How about putting her to bed in the garage every night??
A cover helps, but that would just give 'em traction for climbing up!!!
They have some repelant at the pet stores for furniture.
Hang CD's on fishing line around the car, works for birds around my pond, never know??

I use the PANIC button to scare the local cats away before they get to it, but if you aren't able to watch it, there really is no way to stop them (aside from a garage, which I'm guessing you do not have the luxury of parking in).

Cats will scratch your car. No doubt about it. Even worse I've had cats peeing on my wheels (previous VW Jetta, not on my Magnum). Parking in the garage is the only solution. I don't believe the "repellants" work.

On the bright side, I assume you don't have a rat problem :)
Our outdoor cat likes sleeping on warm car hoods and scratched the hell out of my old Passat wagon. For my wife's car, I throw a cover on every night. So far, no scratches.
If you don't mind your car getting wet, you can buy a motion sensored sprinkler and set it next to the Magnum. Maybe a long shot, but just a thought.

I have cats, my neighbors have cats, my nieghbors neighbors have cats, and we have no garages....what a pain in the arse!
I cover my baby every night, it really helps. Spend some time and really get that paint protected. I use Klasse highgloss glaze, which leaves an acrilic sealant on the paint. Really really good stuff. I finished her off with a good coat of Meguires Gold class wax. If you have the paint protected, and you keep her washed reguarly...like once a week, you shouldnt have trouble with the cats scratching your baby through the cover.

I appreciate all the tips even though it sounds though a garage is the only key. I think i'll wax the heck out of it and just try to protect it. But if i find one scratch i'm following the advice of the wise LeeReed, feeding dishes of anti-freeze with Catnip everywhere!

YOu have the train tham that your car hurts them :)
I suggest a pellet gun with BLUNT pellets, unless you want to kill them.
YOu hav eto be care full about that as there are discharge laws that vary widly by area.
If you set up for a bit wait for them to get close and pop them they willlearn that your car causes them pain they will typically leave it allone.
YOu can also call local game warden or animal control and they will typicall trap and destroy feral cats.

Had a problem with cats a couple of years ago. Threw some moth balls around my van. No more cats.

If I saw a neighbor poisoning or shooting at cats with any type of gun I wouldn't want to be that neighbor. Wax the heck out of it so they slide right off when they try to jump on. Als from experience I am certain that cats hate mothballs as mentioned earlier. You could also call the animal control or set your own have a heart traps and turn the feral kitties in.

I thought about waxing so they'd slide off, but i know they have those retractable claws for traction. I have a BIG problem with cats in general. How is it that someone can own an animal that is free to roam all over the city damaging property (cars in this case) and its ok? If I see someone's cat scratch my car and i find the owner, are they liable for a new paint job, that is of course if i happen to catch the bastard. I may be going overboard, but I dont let my dog run around the city and creat chaos. Mostly I feel responsible to protect my own car with wax and covers and garages obviously, but i think those cats need to be dealt with also. Me 'N Roscoe goin cat chasin tonight though, thats fa sho

You can catch them with a Hav-A-Heart trap and just drive them to another town and let them go. Not that I've ever done anything like that.

I prefer burning the cats BUT if we have to feel good about it I suggest "deer sprinklers". This device hooks up to your garden hose just like a regular water sprinkler except for one thing....it has a motion senser and ditributes a larger stream of water where the motion is. Hey, water beats scratches!! Below are some links. I used one on the boys that use to do power slides with their bmx bikes on my beautiful green front lawn. I don't use it anymore because their parents have allowed me to use my potato run. It's fun!!!!

Grinner - that would be one very very dead cat.
feral cats need to be put down. Pets need to be controled.
Blunt bb's wont do any more than sting the cat, and teach it to not do what its doing.
you just have to keep up with it.

Get a racoon trap and put some cat food in it. Then turn the cats into the humane society. If they are somebody's cats, then they need to take responsibility.

My Lightning tried to eat a cat last year. left it outside overnight, cat got on the motor, started motor, cat jumped through the surpintine belt and SURVIVED!! It looked like someone broke a cat-hair pillow under my hood, that was a pian, but the cat ran off and I'm sure never snuggled up on a car again!
Paint ball gun could have the same results, relitivly harmless to the car (if you miss). Won't hurt the cat either, but who cares about the cat?

Sorry man but thats just dumb...does anyone here consider themselves a sharpshooter with a low velocity bb gun? If you do your fooling yourself. If you put a bb or pellet into a cats eye its not going to just "sting the cat".The cat will surely suffer greatly for a long time then most likely die of infection. ( oops sorry grandma so and so I didn't realize that was your cat) Feral cats are a menace to wildlife but it wouldn't be the case if people were responsible. The only reason you don't see the same problem with dogs is because people are scared of feral dogs.
It may be going against the grain here but I think that anyone that would choose to do anything to make a cat suffer needs to be locked up. There are easier more humane ways to deal with the problem. If you guys can figure out how to mod half the stuff on our cars you can figure out how to deal with a feral cat issue without trying to pacify your needs to hurt an animal for no good reason.
I am positive I am not the only one that feels this way, but I may be the only one with the brass to say it whether or not I go against the popular vote. I hope iRock sees this as I am sure she would agree with me.

How about this...
Charge the body with a bit of voltage from a tesla coil.
A little snap in tha pants so to speak

BTW Feral cats ARE a problem, they spread several disesases.
In South Georgia several farmers paid me to pick them off with my trusty .223.
Made good money with them and beavers, coyotes, armadillos, wild dogs, and rattlesnakes...

get some tacks and 2 pieces of felt carpet. Push the tacks through one of the carpets and them place that one on top of the other (point side up of course) and place it on the hood.

Cats peeing on wheels? I seen dogs pee on wheels, but a cat? That's news to me.

That'd probably draw cats!
Seriously though, you could move where you have a garage. Anybody living in your neighborhood needs to be a cat lover. Not that I condone ferel cats at all. I've used animal control to clean up apparently unowned cats before.

Do you have Animal Control in your area. I would start there. I like the moth ball idea for starters. I hate the idea of harming any animal, but wild cats are dangerous and should be dealt with. They will not only scratch up your car but can become aggressive towards human when they are not domesticated. And if I had 20 cats in my trash I'd be doing something quick.

I'm glad you posted that, great idea!
To the OP, try the mothballs, I've heard from folks in the past it works. What passes for animal control where you live, have you contacted them? If you're living in apartments, you should be talking to the manager, writing the management company, and a letter to the editor of the local propaganda rag might help. Numerous wild cats is a public health issue. Harming dumb animals isn't the solution, although harming the individuals who acquire the animals, do not spay and neuter them, and let them run wild would be most satisfying.

Hey Dano,
I can say that with my Paintball gun I can hit a cat in the body/back end 9 of 10 within 75 ft. With a mild powered BB gun thats sighted I am willing to bet I could match that.
A BLUNT BB will not hurt the cat any more than giving it a little poke. Its VERY VERY hard to actually penatrate the skin of a cat. The idea of BB's os to make it understand that your car is not its bed. They will learn. I use Spicy peanuts to keep squirls off my balacony. They were tearing up eveything out there. I put out spicy peanuts and they took them and came back. Kept puttingthem out and they went away :) I just keep a hand full out and they stay away.
I would never do something to an animal that would leave it wounded. Its a matter of Do or Do NOT. I wouldnt leave out poison or anything else that would or could get something else.
BTW - I was raised if you kill it you eat it, Cat is NOT good eating :D
Welp I have to pack for Hammer Fest. Ill check in from someplace that has some open WiFi :)

No one has mentioned getting a big, mean, hungry dog. If he doesn't run the cats off at first, beat the hell out of him a couple times with a dead cat.

Two solutions, one expensive and one cheap.
1. 9mm UZI with a suppressor-snipe 'em right from your house window, no one gets disturbed.
2. bowl of antifreeze, but gotta worry about the dogs too. Because we don't want to kill them.

I lost a very good lab earlier this year from a neighbor with a 5 gal bucket of antifreeze. Cost me a couple thousand to try saving him. I have a fenced yard and he is an inside dog. Another neighbor's dog dug a little hole under our fence, he was out maybe 5 mins.
Toughest decision of my life that night that I had the Vet put him to sleep.
I still miss him...

I have found what I think is the ULTIMATE cat-deterrent system.
Download the video at THIS LINK! (http://falsepositives.blogspot.com/KA2.mpg) of this "special" system in action.
Believe me - once a cat comes across this special device, the cat will bother your vehicle no more.;)
