It makes all the sense in the world to tint your front windsheild...looks great...but a pretty dumb mod IMO. Hopefully you dont hit someone cuz you couldnt see them.

While it seems like an awesome thing to do, I believe its illegal in all states. :racing:

Unless you have a doctor's note declaring you have an eye condition to being overly light sensitive.

One thing I've seen, windshields tend to crack when you park them in the sun after you tint them. They have too much of a compund curve and the tint expands/contracts at a different rate than the glass.

Knock on wood, I've had it for 6 months with no issues. Visibility is better at night in the sense that it cuts down on glare and allows you to still see the road when oncoming headlights would blind you without the tint. At first it was a little difficult at night but now its not a problem at all. I'm sure that other people with tinted windshields will corroborate this.

I wish they would allow a lightly tinted front windshield to be legal. I think a 50-70% would be good. Oh well. :racing:

You should take a picture from the inside looking out at night... or at day... or both.

I could see it reducing glare, but no way will I believe it makes visability better. Its already hard enough to see things at night, putting a film over the window isnt going to make already hard objects to see any easier to spot. Its a great looking mod, dont get me wrong...I just dont feel its safe. If you want to reduce glare at night, look at the opposite side of the road as opposed to the headlights of the oncoming car...

gonna be in a world of suck if you are ever in an accident that shatters that windshield.

windshield is designed to breakaway, with tint it will break in to shards that can slice you pretty bad..

looks cool though.. I wish there was a system that would darken the windows when parked and undarken when driving, the whole point of tint for me is to keep the looky loos from looking inside my car.

They could do 70% from the factory, afterall, all the side and rear windows on todays cars are tinted 70% from the factory. Thats what "solar glass" is. :racing:

do what??? im pritty sure that the windshield is supposed to stay together to prevent the glass from coming in on your face when you hit a dear or something... it isnt supposed to shatter into little pieces and fall out or in..... anyways the tint would hold it together if anything better with out the tint on their???

The windshield is laminated to prevent shattering. By putting tint on it, the the added pressure can cause the glass to peel apart to the extent of shattering during an accident. Which is the same reason tint can cause the windshield to crack - it adds pressure that the glass wasn't designed for.

The chance of the windshield cracking because of the tension from the thermal expansion of the tint is pretty low. I am not going to come out to my car one sunny day and my windshield be cracked. I have a hard time believing the tint would cause the glass the shatter into pieces in an accident when that is exactly what the laminated glass is designed not to do. I cant see how adding basically another piece of laminate or tape on one side could cause that. Any proof?

Anytime you do something illegal ie change the color of your tailights, turn signals, etc, you are setting your self up for a possible lawsuit or refusal of your insurance company to pay for damages. Say a driver changes his tailights to white bulbs instead of having the legal red (I've seen ricers do it) and someone was to rear end them. Well the driver that rear ended the car with white taillight bulbs could say in court that tey didn't see any (red) brake lights come on so they didn't know the car was braking. Same with a tinted windshield. Say you are driving down a road some night and hit a jogger on the side of the road. I could see his relatives trying to sue you saying you probably didn't see him because of your (illegally) tinted windshield. Just doing things like this opens up some bad possibilities. Everyone knows how sue-crazy people are in the U.S.

windshield are required by federal regulation to shatter in a manner like this:

http://www.michaeltotten.com/archives/images/Caved%20In%20Kiryat%20Shmona%20Windshield.jpg

a tinted windshield cannot do that, as the tint will hold the pieces together causing them to become large "shards" like this:

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/4607/img1612gj9.jpg

the safety glass is held in place by the tint, creating large shards of glass instead of micro break away safety glass..

if my head by chance hits the windshield in an accident (shouldn't with advanced airbags, but IF it does) I would prefer the glass to break away from me, rather than be held together and slice me like a sword.

Can I chime in?

I have 20% on the sides and I do have 30% on my front windsheild, I don't have issue driving at dark with my magnum.

I have 5% on my truck on the sides and I have more troubles driving that then my magnum.

BTW Weclome to the club!

While it looks cool its a useless mod in agreement with above made comments about the law and accidents and stuff. Thats like summer tires on the front and winter grips on the rear in winter too...oh wait thats a different topic.
