View Full Version : Wipers only have 2 speeds...

So I noticed today that when I turn my wipers on in any of the intermittent speeds or low the speed stays constant (at low). The wipers do go faster when I switch to fast. Anyone know what would cause me to loose the intermittent delay? Ive only had the car a few days now and it is possible that the wiper controls are smarter than me but I am stumped.

u might possibly have a faulty multifunction switch

there was a TSB for the wiper switch in 2005/2006 model years....
but you should look at your windshield and make sure you have the rain sensor on it...
if you just bought the car and the dealer replaced the windshield due to a crack or rock chip and they skimped on getting the glass with teh rain sensor attatched....there is you problem....

Perhaps your rain sensing feature is activated. If for some reason the rain sensor bracket was removed and then glued again, the complete windshield and rain sensor must be replaced, of course, if rain sensing is desired. First of all, I would recommend you to verify if the rain sensing feature is turned on. If so, you should turn it off on the dash digital display (I forgot the name of this), to see if the normal intermittent function works.

I actually tried turning off the rain sensing feature and I don't think I actually have the sensor on the windshield. It supposed to be a little box near where the rear view mirror is correct? If so, I don't have that. I made an appointment to get it fixed at the dealer on saturday, so hopefully it will be working soon. I'll let you guys know what finally fixes it. Thanks for the input!
So I forgot to check after I disabled the rain sensor, and you guys are right its definitely the sensor or lack there of...the intermittent feature worked just like they are supposed to with it turned off. Looks like the dealer is replacing a rain sensor on saturday.

I understand the problem is the lack of the sensor. It is supposed to be standard equipment on 2006 SRT8 and 300C. Did you check if the cable that goes to the sensor is somewhere near the rear view mirror?

well,
if the rain sensor is not there, and the bracket that holds it to the glass is not there...
looks like you will be getting a new windshield.

Or just forget it. I don't think the rain sensing feature deserves paying $200 or $300 dollars. The windshield comes with the rain sensor. You can't install any windshield.

It could be the wiper motor. My 05 Dodge Ram started having 2 speeds occasionally. Dealer diagnosed with the Starscan that it was in fact the motor, not the switch. He said it like $90. So I decided to just drive with the 2 speeds. My truck has 120,000 miles and the dealer said the motor might last forever, just with 2 speeds.

If the problem were the wiper motor, why the wipers function correctly when the rain sensor is turned off?
