I recently purchased an 05 magnum rt and found out quickly after getting it home the hood struts were worn out and would not support the hood. After doing some searches on this forum and a couple others I found a few websites that sell them for a reasonable price(cheaper than Autozone's $32). Well being bored today I discovered the ends of the hood struts are simply threaded onto the strut itself and thus are removable, this made the search for replacements easier as all I needed were struts with the same body and overall length. I found the mighty-lift brand at Autozone and discovered item number E95918 which has the number 4550 on the shock body itself. These are a great replacement. The shock body is larger in diameter and the shaft is too, actually one shock was enough to support the weight of the hood by itself. Because the shock is slightly larger it makes closing the hood a little harder but I'm hoping they will last longer being a larger shock, we will see. I paid $16.99 each and simply had to swap the ends. They are also slightly longer so they open the hood further than the factory replacements.

Sounds good as long as they are not going to fold your hood if they are too strong.

Great find. I would hold off on these if you have a fiberglass hood though. Sounds like a perfect replacement for stockers though.

I got hit in the head changing my oil Sunday, so I changed the struts. Man are they strong. Do you know is there is a mighty lift that can be used on the hatch?

Why? I bet my fiberglass hood is stronger (and heavier), than the stock aluminum one... So, why would you hold off?
