View Full Version : Wrong oil will set a code?

So I had my oil changed at the local (surviving) Dodge dealer. I looked at the receipt, and saw they had noted "5w20" oil for my SRT8. I immediately called them on it, insisting that I asked and paid for Mobil 1 Synthetic 0w40. The guy back pedaled, stating that it was just a "generic oil change code" and that they had, in fact, put in the new Mobil 1 5w40 synthetic that Dodge was now recommending over the 0w40. Yeah, right. He also stated that if they had used the wrong oil, an "oil change required" code would set within a couple hundred miles. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

I'm still tempted to drain out whatever it was they used and replace it myself. I should know better than to trust a dealership with something as serious as an oil change.

You will not get a code! He is lying. I hate people who lie. Whoever lies once will not stop lying. I would quote him in front of his manager and I would not return for business. If you return, you will be lied to again and again on other stuff.

there is a code for oil 'something'. Can't pull the whole OBDII out of my head now, but oil CAN set a code.

Perfect example of why you do not want to do maintenance at most dealers.
