On my 2007 Charger I can turn the key and hold it for 10 seconds or so when I'm rolling 10-15 MPH and it disables the ESP/BAS until the next time I shut it off,, some kind of "dyno mode" or some such.
I tried this on my 2005 3.5 300 Limited last night and it didn't work.
Is the key trick just on the newer years?,, and if I want this on my 300 bad enough, do I have to wire in/do the disable ESP switch trick?
Thanks guys.
David.

The key trick only works on cars built April 2006 or after

So I haven't looked at my production date on my 06 300c yet. But when I did this key thing, about 10 - 15 seconds, it gave me a single chime. I didn't even think tov mess with the ESP button, but after the chine, the esp was still engaged. Do I do the key trick and THEN hit the esp button?
Thanks

No.
It most likely is built prior to April 2006 and the trick isn't working.

i've heard of this "key trick" but I know nothing about it, what exactly is the sequence for this?

From the opening post ;) :
I know back when I had a honda, turning the service light off was a PITA...royally....if i didnt get the timing of the button sequences just right, it'd take a good 15 minutes just to turn the damn thing off.....just was wondering what the exact sequence was....but i suppose i can play with it:caveman:

For me, it's worked at just about any speed over 5-10 mph .... I let her cruise, feet off the pedals, and turn the key the 3-4 seconds required, then you hear a ding, the dash lights/radio/HVAC lights shut off and come back on in 1-2 seconds, and the ESP/BAS lights should stay on solid, meaning that HAL has been given some time off  and you can go :racing: and do some :magburno: .... LOL
To turn the system back on, shut the engine off and re-start it. No lights should be on and no trouble codes should be tripped.

the key trick seems to work better than hitting the esp button for me but i dont think its 100% off in a 09 300c.

makes me wonder if I wasted money and time installing NOESP in my 2008.

It's never 100% off or our open diffs would peg leg really bad..
We need just a little to get both wheels spinning.
Well, I don't since I went to the 8.8" Ford diff W/Detroit True Trac.
Even so, I am not concerned W/a little ESP still enabled. If my wheeels are spinning, then having a bit of brake applied will help the launch.

I would like to know what ESP/BAS is and what is the purpose of disabling it?

Quoted from the owners manual:
BAS is standard on vehicles equipped with electronic
stability program (ESP). The BAS is designed to optimize
the vehicle’s braking capability during emergency braking
maneuvers. The system applies optimum pressure to
the brakes in emergency braking conditions than might
otherwise be afforded solely by the driver’s braking style.
This can help reduce braking distances. The BAS complements
the antilock brake system (ABS). Applying the
brakes very quickly results in the best BAS assistance. To
receive the benefit of the system, you must apply continuous
braking power during the stopping sequence. Do
not reduce brake pedal pressure.
The ESP enhances directional control and reduces driving
wheel spin of the vehicle under various driving conditions.
The system operates when the vehicle speed is
greater than 7.8 mph (12.6 km/h).
The ESP system corrects for over/understeering of the
vehicle by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel.
Engine torque is also limited.
The ESP warning light, located in the instrument
cluster, starts to flash as soon as the ESP
system sensor’s information varies from the
driver’s intended path. The ESP warning light
also flashes when traction control is activated.
The purpose of deactivating both of these functions is to be able to drive the car without electronic intervention (burnouts, drifting etc) and to improve performance. With these "nannies" on the car tends to hesitate when asked for flat out acceleration.
I installed "defeat " switch to take them both offline when needed.
