Hey Guys and Gals, just to let you all know, if you are interested in getting your canadian passport and worried about wait times. It took me only 2 weeks to get mine. Dropped the application off at the passport office on July 31/09 and i had it delivered to me yesterday August 12/09. So quite a quick turn around for the application....
Just thought i would let you all know...

Passport is only $87.00 for ages 16 and over for a 24 page. So a EDL cost less than that?
Edit: Adam the EDL is only good for land and water crossings between Canada and the US...see http://www.ontario.ca/en/services_for_residents/ONT05_017865
Oh and the fee for an EDL is $40 in addition to the cost of renewing your drivers licence which is $75. So that is $115(not valid for air travel) compared to $87 (and is valid for everything)

EDL is great if your like me and cross often by car. I just show my card and get waved in no questions etc.
A nexus card and a passport will be just as quick.
Funny think with EDL's taking twice as long as projected to get they still arn't seeing much interest in them so says the Globe and Mail

if you get the enhansed lic then you can only go to the gov sites to do anything with you lic..you cant use any 3 party services for any licence after you do it. i almost did this untill i found out about it as i have to renew my lic every 5 yrs i would have had to go to the gov office and pay alot more to keep it. as it is it cost me $100 every 5 yrs now

Just an update, my passport expires in Nov 09, so I just filled out a passport renewal form (All my info remains unchanged) and submitted it on Oct 16th. On Oct 23rd I got the notice in the mail it was waiting for pickup at the post-office.
That's a passport in 5 business days!!!!

I wonder how hard it would be to apply for a passport from the US.
I already have my US passport, but think now and then about getting a Canadian passport as well.
(dual citizen, can legally have 2 passports according to the US, but not sure about Canada)

In Canada you can be a dual citizen and hold two passports. I speak from personal experience. I have a Czech Republic passport and papers also.
