View Full Version : Pictures of my car slowly burning to the ground. Careful where you go..

ONE of the worst days of my life. I was in the middle of nowhere running the car on the open road(5th gear) when heard a popping and claking sound. Naturally pull over to see what was going on with the car. I popped the hood and notice smoke starting to rise from the passenger side of the engine bay. I immediately call 911, it took them awhile to get out to the scene. Being in such a panic I lost everything in the car to the fire. After months of fightimg with the insurance company I GOT hosed for $6,500 that wasn't paid to Chrysler by them. GAP insurance doesn't cover pre-existing damage-which would have been the short block. They paid for the damages caused by the fire. So I give the builder over 6 MONTHS to make this right financially and he never has. Should I even have to ask? You'd think he'd want to make it right to protect his name and reputation. So.. always carry a fire extinguisher and really do your research before dropping big bucks on a stroker. The guy pretended to be my friend when really he was a lying cheat who would say anyhthing to make a dollar.

I came across his shop soon after joining the LXF. Being that I was new to the whole scene I didn't know much about any vendors. I went for a tune, which he was incapable of doing but covered it up with a BS story, then talke dabout heads and cam, then the topic of a 426 came up. I made a huge mistake and trusted him.

It was a full 6.1 based build. Crank, heads, cam, pistons, rods, LT headers, the whole nine yards.
Thanks for all of the support guys. I just got tired of hiding what happened. Everytime I turned around it was more questions. I did nothing wrong so the story should be told.

Well the builders name has already been mentioned in this thread, and if u look at the OP's location there's only a few places relatively close to him that it could have been. So I put two and two together and I think I've got it figured out.
I know nothing ofthe story at all, but am wildly interested in hearing the "full" story. I too have seen a fire catch on my own vehicle and it's one of the scariest sights in the world. I feel for ya.

No. That was the Escalade after this happened. For the longest time I just tried to avoid talking about it. I would wake up in the middle of the night with the thought of getting my car back with a 426. It became my obsession. I love my Challenger but so much went into the Charger that I'll never get over it. Life goes on I guess. This whole dilema
has put me in a huge hole financially. Imagine all of the people you'd have to answer to if your car 'disappeared'. It was beyond horrible.

The insurance company still paid over 30 grand on the claim. They paid for the damage the fire caused, not the damage that caused the fire. The people went over the car with a fine tooth comb. You wouldn't have to be a genius to tell the car was heavily moddified.

I don't think that signs of an inexperienced builder are glaring. I put faith into
someone that I shouldn't have. There were many signs leading up to this though. Once halfway through the build all I could is keep my fingers crossed. All the praying in the world wasn't going to prevent this disaster.

:wtf::deadhors:I just threw up in my mouth!! Thats disgusting to see anyone have to go thru.....but the above is true. If you seen signs of things not going right with the build and you believe it was this shop or person you should really really tell your fellow dodgies. I want to get a swap done here in SD or maybe have a shop do it and want to make sure this doesnt happen, otherwise I think old school torture would soon follow. Even if you didnt get treated right by this person, didnt get what you expected, had alot of additional costs and it wasnt the cause of the fire I would definately still want to know. What did He say exactly when you told him about the fire??

It sucks that you had to be the catalyst, but look how many people have gone out and bought extinguishers now? You may be saving lives. No joke.
That really sucks man :( I'm sorry you had to go through that..
A note on the fire extinguishers.. They work great for some fires guys, but you may also want to keep a gallon of water in your car. IIRC, Fire Extinguishers cannot put out a tire fire.. Only water can.. Just something to keep in mind.

There have been a few others who have asked similar questions to yours...no answer yet......I am not an expert..so perhaps the answers to questions are obvious...either way I hope this thread answers these questions:
What specifically caused this fire?
IF we never get an answer then we should ask this question -
If a stroker fails and catches on fire does that mean the installer was incompetent?
If the answer can be no then that should lead us to the next question -
What else could cause this? Could the builder have done something wrong?
Other questions that may support typical fire scenarios:
Are there any respectable stroker builders/installers who's work as resulted in an engine fire? What did they do wrong?
Does having a stroker increase the chance of failure that can result in fire regardless of how good or bad the installer is? Is this just an inherent risk all strokers have?
Perhaps we will find out answers to these questions in this thread......Intil then, there is still lots of very well justified bereavement posts for the loss of his fine ride...

sorry to see this bud. The only thing i can think of that would cause the fire is that the hot wire to the starter shorted out. Maybe... maybe not... This happened to me last year. I was coming back from taking my kids to school, when i started to see smoke BIG time coming from my engine bay. i was close to a mcdonald's and pulled into the parking lot. i popped the hood open and as soon as i did that whoosh! more smoke and more fire. Check this out. Luckily there was these 2 guys walking out from McD's and one of them had a large coffee in his hand. I yelled for help and asked for his coffee. He quickly handed it over and my one lucky shot into the fire was enough to turn it off. That would have been the end of my baby back then, if it wasn't for that guy with his large cup of coffee. he left before I could replace his coffee and thank him.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas. Atleast you lucked out with having coffee nearby! The insurance investigation concluded that it was engine failure.

:banana:YOU HAVE A PAPER FROM THE INS COMPANY SAYING IT WAS ENGINE FAILURE?????? DONE! That is a professional company that deals with millions of claims a year all on cars.......Subpeana the insurance adjuster to court. Bring the paper work showing problem. With warranty work, if you dont have it see if you can go on the guys website and print off a copy, or have someone go in asking about a stroker kit in say....a mustang and have him get the paper work with the guys business card stapled to it. and your set!!!!! So he admitted to someone else he warranties his motors, you have the paperwork and ins co to back you and your set. Who is the judge going to rule in favor of????? Captain DOOZER or you who has the backing of the INSURANCE COMPANY. Your set man!! sometimes with businesses like this when they get scared when they get the legal papers and will settle without going to court.

Hey Srt8 HMI really sorry for your loss man. For me what happend with u when u listen the "pop" that was the cilinders getting lean becouse your passanger side fuel rails was not very well fixed so it got disconected the fuel rail with the injectors and it with his 60 lbs of pressure pulverize all your engine bay and when the gasoline reach your headers for what i saw in your picture u were not using headers mants or ptotection for the heat the fire start very fast if u were using some protection in your headers maybe it could retard a lil ore the fire and give u a lil more time to handle with the fire.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck and careful next time when choosing VENDORS!:thumbs_u:
