1000 Km/ 620 miles service? Necessary or not?

Hi there everybody!

I've just bought a 09 300C and the sales agent informed me that I have to drive it slowly till the first 1000km/620 miles so things set in properly.
And when i asked if i should bring it in for oil change, he said no! :roll:

'Bring it in at the first service intervel which is 12000km/ 7450 miles.'

I'm not used to not changing the oil after breaking in a car. All cars that i've bought, wheather they were Ford, Toyota, Honda.. it didn't matter all needed a 1000km oil change.

can anybody shed some light on this matter? should i change the oil for the first 1000kms anyways?:panic:

Break in: I had to do the first weekend with my 2006 300C on a 700 mile trip. All that I did was vary the speed somewhat, but some of the speeds were in excess of 75 MPH for a good bit of the time. Now it has 53,000 miles and has never used any oil, runs great. I wouldn't wait for 7450 miles to change the oil, however. I go by schedule B, as do most of us, and change at 3000 miles.

Most engines nowadays are broken in at factory, so i wouldnt worry about it to much.

Change the oil at your 1000km celebration, and replace it with synthetic.

The break in for just about any engine built now is - drive it the way you are going to be driving it but do change the oil/filter in about 1000 miles and put the type of oil in it that you will be using all the time.

break in is a myth. Drive it hard and change the oil often.

Seriously, the rings are seated in just a minute or two and the rotating assembly is either right or not. So be sure and test it thoroughly while you're under warranty!

And read the manual. DO NOT follow the dealer advice. They lie.

I think it's good to change your oil at 1000 km. If you do it yourself, and inspect the old oil, it will have a small amount of metal powder, filings and the filter will have quit a lot trapped. Personally I want that out of my motor. Use synthetic oil in Bairan, also, I would use a 180F thermostat to keep things a little cooler. It might interest you, my RT Magnum has 275,000 KM on the odo and uses absolutely no oil on 5,000 mile, 8,333KM Mobil 1 oil changes/Mopar filter. Good luck with your new Chrysler, I'll bet that you will find that it is the best car that you have ever owned!

Right from day one if you want to put the pedal to the metal go ahead you're not going to hurt it and it will learn, yes these cars learn form being driven the way you want to, and adjust all the computer settings to follow how it's being driven. Baby it and then try and beat someone off the line and you'll loose. to get the max performance out of these cars, manual shift it and let the engine rev to the point it wants to force shift itself & let it; the more you do this the quicker you car is going to be; granny drive it and for the first while it will be a dog.
