I had my car in for a recall on Saturday, they replaced my ground cable and reprogramed my radio and ESP. After waiting 3 hours for the work to be done, the car is like new now, it lights up like crazy with the ESP still engaged.

hmmm. pre-emptive strike on the ground cable after what was going on with the camaros? or what's the problem with them?

I have been reading threads on the Challenger Forum for months about the small gauge wire used on the ground cable, and somebody finally got through to Chrysler to put out the recall. I did not hear if anyone actually had any malfunctions, mine seemed fine, but the dealership said there was a strain on the battery. I'm glad it's all better and goes like snot now.

I believe this is the one your are talking about http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/Challenger/TSB/Rapid_Response_09019.pdf

and this one http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/Challenger/TSB/Rapid_Response_09018.pdf

Not a recall (there have only been 3 recalls since they came out in 08) but an RRT's (rapid response transmittal), it's been out since April.
Did they also change your battery ?

Mine is still working fine and I looked it up on thier list thing and my car wasn't listed as needing one, so until it does I'll just keep her as it is. I was worried about this also but it seems to only affect some cars not all. Am I right on this or should I just have them check it out and get it changed out?

When they replaced the cables, they needed to recalibrate the ESP.

Some people were having issues with hard starting and the battery going dead. The guage of cble used on the ground is very small

You can go to the following dodge site and put in your VIN to see if you have any recals.

You also may have flickering lights it's a simple fix at the dealership and when you disconnect the battery they have to reflash your system no big deal. The problem seems to be limited to a few vehicles mostly the earlier production builds. As with any new vehicle they are going to have bugs to work out. When I picked up my car from Bob Fredericks dealership they had already gone through all of the TSB for the Challenger and even checked to make sure that the correct gears were in the rear end as some of the April cars got 373 when they should have gotten the 392. I hope this helps as many seem to get worried over the small things.:thumbs_u:

Here's the difference between TSB's, RRT'S and recalls. Everything is NOT a recall !

Here are some general basic descriptions of the following terms:

TSB
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is intended for dealers and auto mechanics.
A TSB will contain information about a common issue and information on how
to correct it. Dealers use this information when dealing with warranty service.
TSB information is maintained by the NHTSA.

Rapid Response Transmittal
A Rapid Response Transmittal is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) but is of a
higher priority or importance than that of a standard TSB. This also is intended
for dealers and auto mechanics. A normal TSB may or may not be implemented
in the course of a vehicle repair as it can and often is done at the descretion of the
dealer.

Unless the problem described in the TSB is identical to that of the complaint or
repair item, and the dealer/mechanic looks for this situation or condition then
usually the TSB is followed. The RRT is of a higher level or importance here. It
informs the dealers and mechanics that a known problem exists and that should
look for conditions stated in the RRT on new vehicles or/as the come in for service, or
in the case of the particulars of the RRT contact the owner and have them bring the
vehicle in for service at the earliest convenience. Usually this is done to help dealer
avoid warranty work costs that will eventually come at a later date.

Recall
Vehicle manufactures must recall a vehicle if it does not meet federally mandated
safety regulations or if there is a major flaw in design. If there is a recall on your
vehicle, a dealer will inspect or replace the flawed components as needed.
DIYAutoTech has recall notices dating back to 1966.
