Looking to get a used daytona and the seller says it has a warranty from the dealer still. I guess my question is, does the warranty only apply to the original owner and will it apply at a different dealership than where it was purchased? it is from out of state so I would hate to go back to that dealer if I had an issue.
I bought my car used with 6k miles on it and the warranty still applied.

the 3/36 warranty does trannsfer but the lifetime powertrain does not.And yes you can take it to any chrysler, dodge dealer for service.

Extended warranties will transfer too, but there's usually a fee for that.

ok, since I am buying the car from another person, what should I ask for? I want to make sure my local dealer will honor the warranty. I am getting a good deal on the vehicle so I want to make sure it isnt totally busted up or something since it will be for my wife. Other than warranty info and a carfax, what else can I do?
If you are the second owner and the car has remaining warranty, you can go to any Chrysler dealer and have the warranty transferred to your name. There is a fee for the transfer and you only 30 days after the purchase to get it done.

any idea on how much that fee is?
This is from my 2005 Chrysler 300 Warranty booklet.
On the 2005, the Power Train warranty is transferable.
F. Transfer of Powertrain Warranty
To transfer the Powertrain Warranty, you must have an
authorized Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep dealer process a
"Transfer of Coverage Application" for you. The cost
for this service is $150. You pay this fee directly to the
dealer. You must apply for a coverage transfer within 30
days from the date you buy the vehicle.
No Coverage to Second Purchaser if
Transfer Fee is Not Paid
If you do not transfer the remainder of the 7 year/70,000
mile Powertrain Limited Warranty coverage and pay the
transfer fee, or if you are the third (or subsequent) owner
of the vehicle, the Powertrain Limited Warranty described
in this Section 2.2 does not apply to you.

make sure you pull a car fax cause if the car was modified in the past or in any accidents it could void the warranty. buyers beware, carfax will tell you the remainder of all warranties from the manufacturer

ok, all I need is the VIN right? So the carfax is pretty accurate?

Don't forget you have 3 years (36 months) or 36,000 miles whichever comes first. Thats from the first day the car was registered to the first owner. :racing:

Lifetime warranty is no longer transferable. It used to be for a fee, but Chrysler has since change the policy.

ok but will the car fax basically tell me what warranty is left on the vehicle?

As long as you have the current mileage on the vehicle and the "in service" date, then you can figure it our for yourself. If the vehicle has been owned by someone else for 4 years, then the basic 3/36K warrenty is over of course, no matter what miles are on the car. Same for more than 36,000 miles, etc.

Yeah, because I'm the third owner on mine, I cannot get any warranty coverage!

yes, but dont listen to other people, be safe anc cover your ass. its alot of money! if you have the in service date and the miles and that calculates to 15k/1.5 years left of warranty, you still do not know if that warranty has been voided. spend the 20 bones and get the carfax. cheap insurance.

Any dodge warranty 3/36.000 miles warranty will transfer, UNLESS the warranty has currently been voided by a dealer. A quick call to the any dealer will heed you this information.
The "Lifetime" warranty that is offered on the new dodges IE: powertrain...... this is the loophole it's for the Lifetime of the orginal owner.. that means when you trade it in the LIFETIME warranty stops..
for used car buyers that means that you really don't have ANY powertrain warranty... unless it defaults back to the 3/36

yea the car fax says there is 12 months or 25k miles left on the warranty so that should be ok. The carfax seems pretty helpful, Im getting a good deal on the car and its a Sublime like ive always wanted. Im picking it up friday. First thing will be a shaker and BT pink thingy :)
