Thats alot of red/organge, thought about adding a second color. Well definetly adds some POW, BOOM, BANG to your engine bay.

I was thinking about doing the same but matching the Cool Vanilla. I just worry about how the dust would look on it. Have you though about doing the air filter cover to match? It might help to balance out the compartment some. I think also having a braided radiator hose and polished valve covers would look good.

Nice job.

What type of paint did you use? How many coats?
Looks good!! I'm thinking of doing mine as well. :-)

Ok I used Dupli-Color engine enamel Chrysler industrial red-de1632 I bought it at Auto zone for 5 bucks,I put on 2 coats on the engine on Saturday and drove around at night then on Sunday I remasked and put on 2 more coats then I got my wifes little artist brush and some black paint and did the details,I had a can of beer while doing it and had a great time.I am thinking about doing the airfilter right now,do you think it might be to much?

Very sharp! Good call on making the lettering black, it provides excellent contrast.

Thanks for the info! Beer always make things better when you're working on cars or motorcycles, etc..
Did you take off the cover or just masked everything around it??
I think maybe doing the airfilter might be a little much. When I get home tonight I'll try to Photoshop what it would look like if your picture includes the air filter (don't remember while I'm writing this!!)

I had to mask everything and use newspapers, and after I was done with the painting the next day I took the car to the carwash and powerwashed the engine to remove any paint dust.I don't have a garage and I had to paint it on the street in front of my house and there was a breeze of air(of course)when I was painting.I want to see pictures of these engines.

Now that's rebadging but it still is a hemi!

So I guess your saying you didnt take the cover off the engine and shoot it. I've been looking to do mine but I thought it was gonna be a bitch removing all the bolts and electric fittings. I've also been thinking about a blue braided radiator hose. Anything to get some color under the hood. Its what us NON-HEMI guys have to do cause we dont have the way-kewl engine cover. Its just too bad we cant do anything with the nasty bare aluminum engine. It just looks cheap.

Aikidoka,
Do you go to the shore alot? Looks like that salt air is doing a number on your aluminum. I wonder if there is anything you can coat it with to keep that from happening.

Mine came like that direct from the lot. My build date was 3-3-05 and I picked it up on 4/27. So I believe that is a normal condition of whatever coating they put on the motor.

Yes, I did not remove the coverand I did not remove any electrical,I used masking tape for everything but it did not take that long, for me it took about 10 minutes.I opened up a can of beer and started to mask and by the time the beer was done I was done with the masking. Also sinse our cover does not come off us SXT and LX owners have to be even more creative about our engines.

I like it, but i'm with apache on this one. it need a contrasting color. How about painting the intake runners a color shifting shade of black or chrome?

Very nice. I've been putting it off. Now I think it's time to get er done. How difficult was it to reach the back side with paint?

mrg
09-02-2005, 06:00 AM
It was not that bad at all,But you will need newspaper to put around the parts that you dont want overspray to get on,and cover up the windsheild with the newspaper plus when you mask around behind the engine put tape under and around it soo that the paper does not hit the paint and you will be fine just let the paint dry abit before putting on the other coats.

Hey Bulldog I would love to see what you mean bya twist,I also painted my brakes a flat high temp red and I think it makes the car look even cooler. But I have to amit now that the weather is cooler I have not been spending alot of time with the magnum,I have been riding my Honda ST1100 motorcycle more and more.

So what color would I paint mine since my car is silver? If i paint it silver it would blend to much with the aluminum right?

mrg
10-03-2005, 08:26 AM
well what goes with silver? dark gray---red--- What would Chip Foose use for paint? I would use one of those color wheels at home depot and see what blends with your silver.I have seen a black and silver magnum on the site and thought that looked really cool and new.

mrg,

I was actually thinking of classic orange with black racing stripes,
or maybe painting the rumble bee after the orange!
(which will take time and a lot of hand painting)

Now all you need are the shock nut covers. It might look cool to paint them the same color.

That's cool. I'm leaving mine black. Everything on my car is black or white (cool vanilla). So I'm leaving the wing black, the bumper scratch pad is black, the nut covers are black, I have the black head lights, etc...

Okay I am stealing your idea and color of the cover. I think it looks great.. Couple of questions though.. The clip that is Electronic on the right side.. I assume you unplugged this.. That is fine to unclip it correct? I also am curious how you masked the letters so wheel to airbrush them. did you tap the entire area and then trace the letters with an exacto to cut them out? Or did you use that MISKET stuff that is a liquid masker that airbrushers use..

Anyway thanks for the help and its a great idea. Looks great!

I did not remove anything.I put masking tape on everything that I thought that the paint would get on.It took longer to do but I did not want to remove anything that might get me in to trouble.Just get yourself a glass of wine or a beer and get those creative thoughts flowing but you have to send us pictures when you are done.

The beer and wine is a must... I have a can if spray paint, masking tape, and probably 40 beers in my beer fridge. I should have it done this weekend weather pending. Thanks for the advice on the masking and beer.. I also will post pictures but not sure how soon I can get to it due to weather its starting to get colder here in KC.
