View Full Version : How do you prevent stolen valve stem caps?

I just receive a set of SRT8 metal valve stem caps from Stealth Auto and was wondering what everyone does to prevent their caps from being stolen (the reason I got new caps was because someone stole the originals).

I was thinking of using some mild lock-tite so that they could not be removed by hand and would require a small wrench.
Bad idea?

some stuff can't be stopped without locking your car up in a container. Skip the lock-tite. If someone wants em, they'll take them unfortunately. Just make sure they only get the cap instead of damaging your stem and possibly leaving you stranded for a low dollar part they broke off.

I bought these cheapy chrome ones from Wal-Mart for about $1.80. They look good and if someone decides to swipe 'em it's a cheap replacement

Wrench them on. Put them on fairly tightly with a pair of pliers or a wrench. Just tight enough so that you can't get them off by hand. That should stop 90% of the "opportunity theft" punks. Keep the pliers or wrench in your glove box though!

Caveat: While I've done this with other cars in the past, I haven't tried it with an LX, and I know the SRT8 aluminum valve stems are sort of fragile...

I didn't know people still did that anymore. I thought it was something people did back when I was a kid, and I'm old now.

I guess the thieves up north are a little slow and haven't grown out of it.

despite the hilarity, it'd be hard to store enough power for a good continuous charge. Plus after they got shocked they would probably break a window or kick the car. as i said before. Do nothing and keep a few spare, tis the sad state of the world right now. Maybe they will get the 4 they need for their car and move on.

Just had 3 out of 4 of mine disappear while I was parked at the train station- the 4th one was apparently too tight for the thieving SOB.
