View Full Version : HELP! I screwed up
So when tightening the three nuts on the top of the front shock tower, one of the bolts broke off, stupid of me, I know. My question is are these a part of the shock itself or can I just buy the bolts?

You snapped one of the studs off the upper strut mount.. That part is replaceable, without replacing the entire strut.
Part number 4895 412AB, I believe...

By the way, I think those nuts are only torqued to something like 20 Ft Pounds :)

I did the same thing. It sucks. You have to drop the entire side of the suspension and shock out to replace it. Took about an hour with the right tools. The bolt is just that a bolt. $2.00 part. I torked it to the specs sent with my mopar brace. Won't do that again. Good luck!

You are good. For future reference (as stated by elcobra) spend $10-$20 for a torque wrench. Worth the investment. Sometimes, we just do not know our own strength.

So once you pulled the mount you were able to replace just the stud? Good to know, because the entire mount is about $32... :thumbs_u:

A hammer to the stud and it will pop out of the mount.

Damn. So much for the value of a torque wrench.

Right after I posted this I got on the phone with the dealership and they told me I could just order the upper mount. I feel like such a _____ though. The reason for my urgent attitude is I was suppose to take a roadtrip in it for a get together with the club tomorrow, sucks huh? I guess it's a good thing I have shocks already ordered and can just fix it then. Thanks guys for the help though, makes me feel somewhat better, haha

What its worth I drove on mine for about a month with no problems with the other two bolts holding it. I checked with another mechanic buddy and he said as long as you are not road racing or driving hard it should be fine for a little while. I drove on the highway with no problems what so ever.
