Are they noisy?
After talking to my drivetrain professional today, he told me that Richmond quality control has slipped over the years and most of their gear sets are noisy around 65-75 mph.
Also, what ratio are you running and why?

Silent as stock in the ones I've set up. It's really a matter of who installs the gear.

John - were mine Richmond??? The only noise in the 3.55's I had was a little bit of whine when I was coasting down hard (manual downshift to stop).

Posted via LXFMobileIn reading the chargerforums there was a concern about gear noise with the Richmond Gears. So, what you're saying that was because of bad installs?

Yes 90% of all gear noise is directly related to improper Backlash settings. The Mercedes rear is tight and much tighter then most are use to. It is really important to make sure your backlash is between .005 and .008 on these rears any looser and you will get a whine on decel.

I have multiple friends that work in gear shops and they all say the same thing, DON'T BUY RICHMOND GEARS for DAILY DRIVERS due to the gear noise.

I have always heard and been told Richmond gears whine as well. everything i research on it point to either the steel or the way they treat the gears. alot of my friends run Richmond in their offroad rigs, but whine isnt a big concern because you get just as much from the mud tires.
as far as the mercedes rear end being tight, i never did gears in one, but have done alot of dana axles & GM, 0.005-0.008 is about normal, almost all of GM & Dana axles are 0.006-0.010.
but they are decent gears from my experience.
