I hear alot of you talking about flashing the converter, What dose that mean?? Also I see alot of people still brakeing axles, why is that? are we just launching to hard? or what? I have the upgraded 09 R/T Axles in my SRT so im hoping they can hold, so im trying to figger out how to launch this so i dont brake a shaft. Any insite would be great. Thanks

Flashing the converter is either giving it full throttle from idle or a slightly higher rpm (maybe 1000 rpm). I hear this is risky on your drivetrain because it shocks the parts a little harder.

if you have a converter, or have driven in a car with a converter it will make sense.
you can flash the converter to its stall speed .... thats what it is.. thats the point of having one.
stalling it up is sitting on the brake and raising rpm.
flashing it up is mashing the gas to get it up to stall speed.
you can flash the converter in 5th gear at 40 mph.
just mash the gas... it will FLASH to 2800 rpms... rather than lock
depending on your TCM (i.e. mopar tcm) you may not be able to flash the converter in any gear ecxcept first.
if i have my mopar TCM it locks the converter in all other gears.

Ok so when im staging with my stock converter, I sit on the line, and hold the brake and bring the RPM's up to right tell it fills like it going to spin. Is that not flashing? Can you NOT flash a stock converter?

I think what you describe is brake stalling the converter. Flashing is letting the engine flash up to the stall rpm of the converter without the brake being applied, meaning flooring it and hanging on for the ride. The engine will flash up to a certain rpm very quicly before there is any strain on the drivetrain that slows the rate of rpm climb.

Flash RPM is a couple hundred RPM higher than stall RPM... like they said, stall RPM is what you're talking about at the line, "brake-torqueing" it. Flash RPM is stabbing the gas quickly. All converters do it... Stalling heats up the trans fluid QUICK. Flashing, not so much.

Ok. So let me get this right. When Im at the line, Insted of holding the brake and bringing the RPM's up to about 1500 on my stock converter, Just hold the brake just so the car dosent move, and dont hold the gas at all, and then on the 3rd yeallow just mash it??? is that flashing?

more or less...
dude, theyre 2 separate terms
you flash the converter to 2800 rpms
you stall the converter at 2800 once you have flashed it to hold it at 2800...
they can be used together technically..
you can bring the rpms up slowly, or you can flash them up...
flash is just a term for raising the rpms very quickly...
something a converter lets you do
hence.. flashing the converter...

Ok I get it. Whats easyer on the drivetrain?

as long as youre not mashing the gas to GO from a stand still... theyre the same.
you can flash to your "launch rpm" at the 2nd yellow or even 3rd yellow and let go... on green (right before really)
or you can stall for 10 seconds at the same rpm.
flashing (quickly raising the rpm) right before its launch time is what you do to avoid having the computer pull timing, and SERIOUSLY increase tranny temps.
either way youre still launching from WXYZ rpms...
now launching "off idle" is a lot harder on teh drive train, and also give more chance to break the tires loose

You are less likely to break something if you stall it up.

Someone did a really good write up about how to launch these cars. I know Cherry did one and so did someone else. You should search for it. You'll find out the best way to launch your car. You should stall it up vs. mash the pedal. On a stock torque converter get up to the staging lines put the brake to the floor raise your rpms to 1500 rpm's. When you launch let the brake go while keeping the gas in the same position and then ease into the throttle to avoid wheel spin (I'm assuming you're not using DR's). You'll get some good times that way. Practice a few times at the track.
