View Full Version : Front Camber Adjustment - Best method

JetPilot

I see there are several methods offered for adding front camber adjustment on the LX platform.... SPC/Eibach adjutable upper control arm, Pedders Camber bushings, Mopar Camber bolts, ect...

Any suggestions on the best method? One type better than the other? I currently have the Pedders rear camber kit which worked great but took me a few hours to do myself, I imagine the front kit would be a little easier.
The SPC/Eibach appears to be a cinch to install but is the tube upper arm and balljoint of any quality?
Just wondering the Pro's/Con's to each if there is any? Had new treads installed and car aligned, front camber is out further than I thought it would be with the drop  Dont want to wear out the inside corners!

Well I can just let you know that I went with SPC all the way around and they are great.

Here is a few images of the front for you:

Thanks Noid, any modifications required on the install? Ball joint looks a bit tall compared to stock, any clearance issues?

The installer told me that they had to do a little bit of cutting on the plastic fender well but I would never see it... and guess what... he was right... I can't tell...
Besides that little thing... everything went smoothly...

X2, I just finished installing the front upper control arms made by SPC 66030/66035 and it helps to have a computer print out of the alignment to show you where to set the caster adjustment. Took about 1.5 hours to install both sides. using a floor jack and jack stands. I used the SPC rear camber kit for the rear a .75 degree kit with 39.5mm bushings p/n: 66080 one kit on each side. I'm waiting to get my Hotchskis sways and then do the final alignment. I took the car to a Dodge dealership and had the alignment checked and used the color print out from their $40K hunter alignment setup to make the necessary adjustments to the rear camber and front caster. The front camber I set to the middle of the slide. It will take a six point 1-1/16th inch socket or wrench to tighten the top nut at 120 ft lbs. I have 98K miles and was quite surprized at how easy the old front control arms came out. The rear camber bushing took at little longer, but with the right tool it was very straight forward install. Like the other fella said the only rub was the passenger side plastic wheel well and all I did was push it up a little and it cleared the balljoint. Now once the sways are on I can get it aligned.

After speaking with JetPilot, I'm interested in the front arms and rear bushings as well. Is there a supporting vendor on this site that offers them? I saw that Jegs carries them, but I'll buy from a supporting vendor if I can.

It's all good, I only ever advertised it once when I was selling a bunch of stuff, it got lost in the mix. I bought them after I installed the Tein garbage.....oops, I mean suspension and then after I went back to stock, I had no need for them.

The OEM parts are backordered like crazy, so I'm considering either the Eibach or SPC's (same thing as far as I can tell, so I wonder who really makes them) and our very own HHP has a good deal on them.

http://estore.websitepros.com/802805/Detail.bok?no=1065

Ignore the picture, it's wrong like on many websites.

I don't have any desire to alter the camber/caster at this point, but it would be great to stop the damn creaking that both sides are doing. Never expected the ball joints to crap out at 50K. After all, I'm so gentle on the car! LOL!!!!

Any more feedback on these products?

Got the same part. Eibach also rebrands and makes them. It is LITERALLY the same part but significantly cheaper.

:)

Yes I had a weird clunking noise until I found out that the top of the balljoint would wedge itself under the plastic fender. I cut it with a box cutter and POOF, noise is gone.

I got a brand new set never installed I'll sell for 250 shipped if interested.

DAMN good price there...

Here's a link to Rockauto. If you click on more info you'll see an adjustable control arm. I misspoke, the OEM is Spicer which is now a division of Raybestos. I've got the Spicers on my car.

That shows as having an adjustable ball joint as well. The OEM control arm does not have an adjustable ball joint.

Of course, you are correct the Dodge/Chrysler OEM control arms don't have ball joints with adustable camber. When I saw the pics of the SPCs I thought you were looking for control arms with adjustable ball joints. I misunderstood.

My bad. Ok..., when the ball joint goes on the front control arms the only recourse is to replace the entire control arm. When my drivers side upper ball joint went, I put the adjustable ones from Spicer on my car, which was the link I put in the OP.

LOL, np, it is going in circles a bit... I'm looking for the OEM ones, but because the lead time is long, I'm interested in aftermarket. Having adjustability is good and it's even better if the the ball joints are better than the Jesus Chrysler ones that seem to wear out pretty quick!

If delivery and price is better than OEM, that too is desirable.

So since you're running the Spicer, how do you like them so far and how long have they been on? :racing:

The Spicers have been on close to 9 months with no issues. When they were installed I also had the tech align the front carriage as well. The Spicers are physically heavier than the OEMs. They've made a big difference, especially on tire wear and general handling.

Thanks for the feedback!

While I'm not certain the various brands are the same thing, it looks like SPC, Eibach and Spicer are extremely similar, if not identical.

Given that, I've gone with Eibach from our LXOM supporting vendor HHP. Feels good to buy from a supporting vendor and at $250 for the pair, it's a great price too.
