Upon arriving at SF, I noticed that one of the 10 spokes on my front left 3-piece 22" wheel was cracked. Coming home I noticed a vibration in Oregon, pulled over, and discovered this:

Five of the ten spokes were broken, and two more were cracked; it was really close to a catastrophic failure. I'm just thankful that my wife and I weren't hurt, and my car wasn't destroyed.

The manufacturer will not answer the phone or respond to emails; fortunately I've found someone that will rebuild them with stronger hats/centers. FYI, don't do business with these "guys".

WOW... that bites!!!!!!!

Whitter is about 30 miles away from Irvine... You should have went there on Friday when you were here...

I am glad that the family wasn't hurt as well...

Also Brian's have been around for awhile... I am surprise that they are not answering the phone... but I bet they would say that you would have to contact the manufactor... and that they are just the reseller's...

That bites. Could have been worse. Hope the manufacturer stands up.

I would'nt rely on super glue or duct tape.

Yikes Brad... that's scary. Good thing you pulled over when you did.

I hate to be a party pooper, but that spoke design does not appear appropriate for a car with hard cornering, braking and accelerating abilities. Far too flimsy, it's the proverbial weak link in the chain. OEM SRT wheels have massive spokes for a reason, not just cosmetic. And they're forged to boot, far stronger yet than cast.
If you get it replaced, keep an eye on the 4 of them, especially after any hard cornering or quick launches.

So you were ok with driving on a wheel with a cracked spoke? That's not too smart, you're really lucky you stopped when you did but you should have never tried to drive on a cracked wheel.

They are the manufacturer. Machiaveli forged, and their machine shop is in the back, last year they actually repaired one of my hoops which was defective. For the last two weeks they have not answered the phone, and won't answer my emails. I also found someone who works for the DMV, - they evidently are out of business. Point is, they made wheels that were not structurally functional for a 4200 pound car, and now won't stand behind the product THEY manufactured. Do you know something that I don't Albert?

So you were ok with driving on a wheel with a cracked spoke? That's not too smart, you're really lucky you stopped when you did but you should have never tried to drive on a cracked wheel.

I discussed this with several at SF, and the consensus was that one spoke "shouldn't" cause a failure. I kept an constant eye on it, and it was fine just a few hours before.

Appreciate it Albert, I'm just a little steamed over the whole ordeal. Now that it looks like I have a good solution, I'll just chalk this up to another hard lesson learned. The wheel guy here in Seattle did some material & stress tests to the wheel and told me that the center definitely is not strong enough for my car. Fortunately the pattern for the holes is fairly universal and he's locating several for me to choose from that are forged & much stronger. Should cost me about $1200 to rebuild all four wheels, paint, mount & balance. A lot cheaper than a set of new USW's, which I would love to have...

That cross lace spoke pattern is one of the more popular designs used in racing (CCW, BBS, Fisk FM10, etc), so it's not the design, it's the workmanship.

Holy scare the crap out of you batman! Thank goodness everyone is okay. Crap one pot hole away from potential destruction and personal danger.

Glad your good, let us know the outcome of the vendor standing behind this....seems pretty self evident there is an issue...

How frightening, wb! I'm glad nothing catastrophic happened and that this will all work out for you. I hope you're no longer riding on the other rims as it's only a matter of time. Too bad the owner/manufacturer is now out of business to make this right for you.

Keep us informed....

Indeed Bruno! Thanks for yours & everyone's concern, we're grateful for God watching over us on that day. The car is sitting until I get different wheels on it. I'll update everyone as things develop... :banghead:

Did you tow it home from Oregon? Or just drive real slow?

that's some real scarey stuff, there.

Thank God no one got hurt.

This only serves to reinforce my reasons for keeping the wheels stock on my SRT8.

3 sets of tires in 36k tells you why I am hard on wheels.

Did you tow it home from Oregon? Or just drive real slow? Fortunately I had a full size SRT spare wheel, and changed it out it 15 minutes. Other than a slight front end pull due to the smaller wheel, the drive home was smooth.
