View Full Version : Got that Getrag baby!

So, my getrag is in
phase 1 of 3 is complete.
(phase 2 is complete revamp of the exhaust, more details later, with what should be VERY interesting dyno results to back it)
(phase 3 is heads and cam change, also should be a little big "different" :) )

back to the rear end--

we got mine in tonight,
installed:
-09 226 axles
-09 getrag 3.06
- hubs for the new axles
-bolts and dodads
-mobil 1 synthetic gear oil with LS

we did Mike Spys on saturday and learned a lot, we probably installed mine in half the time...except for the time fixing our one bump in the road

we ran into a problem with one of my Toner rings....
we re-used the my factory ones and one got torn up a lil too much
*NEWS FLASH* the 09 toner rings that came with the axles WORK. THEY WORK. thank god that it did or i was gonna be SOL on a toner ring for a while. so for those that have worried that the toner rings are not backwards compatible... THEY ARE

we found out a nifty trick.... you can actually unbolt the hub with the axle in, its a tight fit, but its do-able, and you can shove the axle back far enough to get the old ring off and the new ring on... this probably saved us at least an hour or 2 of work.

all in all...
im pretty speechless, the gear bump alone is way too much fun, i can light up the tires on command now, when before(with my oversized cam) it was not always eager to let em loose.

having both wheels spinning is a whole different feeling.. its incredible... this is like a mandatory mod...

i cant wait to see the consistency of 60' times imrpove too.
equally heated tires, and pure hooking is gonna be the ticket.

if you cant tell.. im freakin IN LOVE

i mean how can you complain? i upgraded my axles, my gearing and got an LSD... all for barely more than the price of a Qauife unit without the labor of installing it

BIG SHOUT OUT to
FRI getting us on the lift and letting us use the tools!
Iron Mike for helping with wrenching and helping us cut some corners on the time with his know how!
Mike Spy for being the guinea pig and doing the install first and again, wrenching with me!
InferAl for pushing me and Mikespy to jump on this getrag unit, you clue-ing us in was awesome.
Baytown Dodge for getting us a rockin deal on parts!

Heres some pictures of Mikespys install, we were so busy working i didnt get any of my own.

clearance of bassani catback to axle hubs.... my JBA has a LOT more room

ooh!

Stupid question from dumbass coming up:

So what do you do to make the 3rd pedal happen?

dudeiwin86

3rd pedal? whatd i miss? clutch?
are you talking manual tranny?

dude this is just the lsd rear end, it has a 3 flange ready to bolt up to an R/T drive shaft

its only a 3.06 gear! not the 3.72 or 3.90. it comes in the 09 cop cars and is an available option for others cars i think.

Well went to the track tonight and the LSD is not a cure all for bad track conditions. Cool overcast weather and drizzle didn't help.

i think im in the clear by saying it was a bit under 1500 out the door.
install is free when you and your boys do it ;)

not bad when you take into account shipping that other people will be charging on thier parts that were 1199, and now 1375 2 days later ;)

that boys got oil for blood anyway ;) itll be good enough!

just went for a drive where i wasnt into it 100% of the time and wow..

2620 rpms at 80mph.
part(well the entire..) of the problem is that i have 285/30/20 rear wheels and they are way too low profile for 20's.

they giving me a sick gear ratio tho :)

That oil going down the side can sometimes happen when you work on your own vehicle......:):beerchug:

6.1 Bassanni hits we had to take off the pipes heat them up and flatten them out a hair around the Differential
