Headliner removal

Has anyone taken the headliner down out of their Challenger yet? if so was it hard to do? I am thinking of putting a homelink setup in my Challenger and the visors are too narrow for them. I am thinking of putting it right behind the sunglasses holder. Thoughts?

I have talked to a guy who works in the Brampton plant, I asked him about this and he said it takes two people to put the headliner in and it looked like a nightmare with all the beating and hammering. There are all kinds of clips that look like they will be destroyed when removed. Good luck

One thing to remember if you attempt this is to remove the air bag fuse or disconnect the battery!!! You don't want the side curtain airbag to go off by accident. By the way its one hell of a job. As noted many clips on the headliner are meant to be used only once...especially the ones at the back around the CHMSL light. If you have a sunroof...even more work. When they get changed at the factory we don't have to be as careful with the headliner as a new one will be going in, where as you have to put back the same one. Make sure you have help and take your time.

Thanks for the information on the headliner...looks like I may want to consider plan "B"...puting the homelink somewhere else in the car. Think anyone would notice if I just taped it to the console...hahaha just kidding. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes, plan A or Plan B.

I removed mine! What a PITA! I believe the factory installs them prior to the windshield going in, I got mine out, Had suede put on it and reinstalled it. I pulled it out the passenger door, The seats were all out when we did this. Theres one spot that wraps around the rear view mirror and its about a 1/2" thick at that point, Mine creased right there when we took it out, Once the suede was installed you could not see it. Had I just pulled it out and then reinstalled it you'd have seen it.

Cool with the suede install. I had not seen that in a Challenger yet. so from hearing your experience, I am really thinking of going to plan "B"... I don't want to even think about how hard it would be with the seats still in the car. Thanks for the info.

I matched the factory door panels sued on the headliner, took a minute to find it but its a perfect match, good luck bro, BTW the seats are a 15min job to remove.

Yeah service info also says headliner has to be replaced if removed. Oh well we will look at it the Nashville meet:beerchug:. Surely can figure something out.:wink:

ok, So I am a complete idiot...for some strange reason I was looking at putting a NON OEM version of the hole link in.....WELL DUH... :doh:why not just do the simple thing and find one out of a donor car that IS a Dodge OEM homlink.....sheesh... :roll:
so my new plan (plan C) is to get an OEM homelink and install it.... now to find one. I have uncovered that Cleavlend Pick a Part might be able to help me out. :thumbs_u:
