I was finally able to locate a set of these Toyo's locally through an exhaustive search, but before I put $$ down, .

...does anyone know for sure if these will fit the stock '05 Magnum RT RWD rim?

I know Silver1 put them on his AWD, but I believe that's a different rim.

As far as the tires fitment, it is the same as yours.

Yes, they will fit, I have BFG KDW in the 255/55 size and fit fine (I have the Eiback Prokit, too):

Hey, LtlDad, you've had your KDW's for a while now. Any updates you can share with us? I forget, are you'rs KDWS or KDW-2? These are probably what I want to put on my car and I was hoping to hear from folks who have had them a while about how well they are holding up and driving impressions over the long haul. Did you get your car flashed to accomodate the tire change or is the speedo change so small it's not worth the bother?

tonyt, did you get the 109W or 109V version?

tonyt

109V...both are excellent hyped to be excellent tires...I love them! Can't wait for it to rain and stuff to see how they handle!

tonyt - Cool, thanks for the reply. Had Toyos put on my old Honda Accord and they were very good quality IMHO. Nice to see more alternatives in our size showing up and $105 apiece ain't too shabby either.

I was going to go with the BFG's but the N/A on the snow rating was keeping me from them...

Wear seems to be okay, although I will double check w/ the rotation in about 2k more miles. Ride is better than the 17" rim (w/ Eiback kit), as I am not bottoming out as easily.

I plan on getting the 'flash' to a 245/55/20 in the StarScan, as it is the closest diameter to the 255/55/18. Since I have a SXT, the 18" rim is a big difference.

Not sure if/how the brakes are going to be effected, so far all seems okay.

Matt,

I haven't driven them in the snow (yet, just got them yesterday) but as you stated they are all season and mud & snow rated:

Pics are posted at

There is probably only about 3/16" clearance between the inner sidewall and the steering member in the front...probably about as wide as you can get on the stock set-up. No issues on the rear.

I like them so far...seem to be very good in rain. We've finally had some rain here the past few days; was doing 70 with no hydroplaning. Always had that problem with my contis, so I think this in an improvement. They corner very well also, nice control.

Mine are 255-50-18; but they do come in a 255-55-18 that should also fit.

how much spedo error do you get with that tire size

zonian
08-14-2005, 01:05 PM
My calculations for 3 different sizes :

Tire Size_Tire Dia_Revs/mile_actual speed_indicated speed
225/60/18_28.63"_704_60_60
255/50/18_28.04"_719_60_61.2
255/55/18-29.04"_694_60_59.2

The way I figure, my new Toyo's are about the same diameter as my bald Conti's were, so it's close enough for me.

I have the 255/50-18 Toyo Proxes S/T's on my 05 RT AWD. Using the manufacturers revs/mile for the tires, when my speedo reads 75mph I'm actually doing 74mph.

Silver1 - Did you purchase your Toyos from 1010? I tried to get a set from them last month, but their techs would not ship them - said they would absolutely not fit on the stock AWD rims due to clearance issues with the inside sidewall and suspension member. They said they had just had a return from an AWD using 255s (although I think the returns were BFGs). We had a long back-and-forth over several days; they cited the manufacturer's section widths as support: stock Contis have a 229 mm section width, and the Toyos were at 265 mm (dispite their nominal respective 225 and 255 designations). With my measured 14 mm of clearance, I could only change up to a tire with less than 257 mm section width - so I let it ride for now. Do you have/could you post photos showing the Toyos on the stock AWD rims and the clearance? It would be nice to get them to reconsider with some additional evidence. I agree with you that the survey data on the Toyos looks to make them a good upgrade choice - provided everything fits... Thanks.

I am also running the Toyo's 255/55-18's on my AWD R/T without any problems. They give a very nice ride and perform well on both dry and wet so far.

I'm running BFG T/A KDW in 255/55/18. They work well at any speed. No issues so far - and 300% gain in performance over the stock Contis.

jfan,

Here is a picture of the clearance for the Toyo Proxes S/T in 255/50-18 size on my 05 RT AWD.

I bought the tires at a local Les Schwab tire dealer. I think they were about $118/tire...

If you want a larger pic, let me know!

Many thanks, Silver1. Maybe 1010 Tire's data is faulty, or the rim width of the mounted tires in the manufacturer's data sheet has a more significant impact than I would expect - but obviously they fit! That seems to be a really good price you got...

Thanks, tonyt, ttrac and Northern Rider for your feedback - that's what makes this site such a great source of info!
