It Finally Begins! I for one can't wait to have these magazine issues as hermetically sealed keep sakes. This must be the cover story on every major rag.

I love this line!
almost exactly 20 years since I drove my first ponycar...I'd managed to borrow a Pontiac Trans-Am. It was metallic brown, with the 245-hp L98 under the hood. And it was the biggest piece of crap I had ever driven...The body had the torsional rigidity of overcooked linguini, and the steering was approximate at best. It rode like a Conestoga wagon, and cornered like a drunken sailor. The brakes caught on fire after just five hard miles on the Angeles Crest Highway.

:spock: Fascinating

Popular Mechanics chimes in liking the Challenger better than MT.

Well..after reading those press stories, all I can say was who was the idiot driving the Challenger R/T?? 14.4 @ 97mph. Was he asleep?? My Challenger R/T ran 13.6 @ 103.5 mph with an automatic and only 540 miles on it. And that with the slow 306 gear!!! Since then I've added a ported throttle body, Corsa cat back, and I'm waiting for my Predator tuner. I'm hoping for high 12s this year.

Well the general must have deeper pockets because based on price the SS Camaro with 6.2 liters making 426hp weighing 3900 pounds is being compared to the 5.7 R/T. Someone needs to run the SRT8 against the SS and surely it will handle better than the GT.

Even so, that was a pretty crappy time. I don't think the driver knew how to power shift that R/T

Oh no doubt these writers seem be as bad a driver as I am but I don't get paid to road test.

In their case, ignorance is bliss because they get paid for it. LOL

I don't know if the SRT8 would out handle the GT in the article. It had the track pack option. solid axle or not, the springs/dampers, and sway bars in the track pack really wake the GT up on the roadcourse.

I agree though, they should have thrown an SRT8 in along with the RT for that test, and for that matter the GT500.
