C2M2 was approached by a student in high school who has the assignment to lead a major project during his senior year. He selected two things that are special to him and is working to do something great with them. One is cars J and the other is Austin Safe Place (http://www.safeplace.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Homepage).

Safe Place is an organization here in central Texas that helps Mothers and their children escape violent home situations.

Did you know that in 2007 alone, shelter programs in all of Texas housed 16,968 children and 12,356 adults, yet 10,407 adult survivors in need of shelter were turned away?

Texas Heat Wave organizer (David MacDonald) is coaching Luis (Del Valley high school student) in how to organize a show and is event sponosoring the advertising, so it is not totally amature.

I spoke to Luis and he has about 50 spots allocated for us. That is not all of the spots he has, though he wants to limit it so that it is not overcrowded and has a diverse mix of vehicles. Entry fees have not been finalized yet, but I think we are talking about $15-20 donation per car. I think we could get 50 cars if we can call on our Mopar kin (DFW, Alamo City, Coastal Bend and SCLX) for support on this. The show is at his school near Austin Bergstrom Int'l Airport, so it should be convenient for visitors to get to.

The teacher that is in charge of senior projects, went into the hospital this past week so I asked him to have a counselor get in touch with me just so we could discuss what is going on. He said he already has a letter signed by his principal that is being provided to the sponsors as proof of this being legit.

I use to know one of the administrators for Safe Place and they have their busiest times when the economy is unstable. I feel that now is the time to act and we can act by doing something we enjoy doing anyway. Let's get together, show the cars and spend the afternoon socializing while we support a good cause. Maybe even go to dinner after the show.

So to continue this, how many people really think they would participate in this? We’d love to see you out of towners join us and show the power of the Texas Mopars! J

I hit a snag! My kiddos first t-ball game is on Sat. It starts at 8:30 here in SA. It should last about an hour and that would give me almost enought time to make it up to the show. How flexible is the check-in time? I know the show is supposed to start at 11:00.

I think it will be flexible. We'll save your spot. Just let us know how many.

bumping for a good cause.

The northside crowd is meeting at the Rudy's (Duval/183) @ 10 (a little before if you want to sit and eat) and heading for Del Valle from there.

***We need to save 2 spots for our Alamo friends.

Bump...

Looks like it will be Aaron (300Magnum) and me. We should get there about 11:00 or so if all goes well.

Just a thought: Could you make that two "lambo friendly" spots?

HEY EVERYONE!!! BAD NEWS...REALLLLY BAD NEWS!!!!

Luis, the student that has put so much work into this show was hit by a car last night http://news8austin.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=236826 and is in critical condition. His school administrator just called me and told me that his parents would want the show to go on. They notified Safeplace and Safeplace graciously offered all of the proceeds back to Luis' family to help with medical expenses.

Come one friends, this really changes the tone of this show. Please pass the word around, collect some cash and we will get it to the family, if not Saturday we will get it to him soon! All I can do is offer my word if yo udon't know me personally.

I'd love to see Capital City and our other Mopar club kin donate in the name of our clubs.
Thx, Les K
