So, If money weren't a factor, what would you get:
1. 1000 hp Drive Shaft Shop Half shafts and a Quaife Limited Slip Differential (this is all on a pre 2009 rear with a 215mm carrier
OR
2. 2009 rear end which includes...226mm carrier with a Mopar Limited Slip differential and 09 axles
Which is stronger/more durable?

Option 3. BuilderBill 8.8 Ford set-up.
That is what I just opted for.

Well I am not the best to answer this but from what I have read I believe that the DSS is still the stronger option, I believe that the 09 stuff is definitely stronger than previous year models but it is not going to hold up to 1k hp levels that the DSS makes a claim of.

My 8.8 ASSEMBLY is a DIRECT bolt in.....like in your driveway!
Replace the rear driveshaft with mine, replace the hubs, and then replace the center chunk WITH axles...I used the original mounting and now have a Patent Pending on the entire assembly.
Currently, the 1st prototype is installed in Jason's (USCG Charger).
The 2nd unit is on it's way to the SpeedFactory Charger race car on Tuesday.
The 3rd and 4th units are going to BigAl & Cam next week.
The final unit is going to PowerWagon896.
Approximately, production units available April 1st.
Pretty trick looking unit AND will come with a 1 year warranty, just like all my High Torque Capacity driveline components.
Basically, the 8.8 is TONS stronger than the Mercedes unit and has so many gears available as well as so many limited slip options from clutch style, Detroit True Trac, E-locker, & spool!

Agreed. BuilderBill's the strongest. I've got the DSS V1s and the Quaife. I still broke inner CV joints on the half axles.

How much for a direct bolt in with hubs, axles, rear drive shaft, 3.23 gears, LSD and anything else needed for the installation? Thanks. Also, to offset the cost, how much do you estimate my 06 SRT rear is worth. It has approximately 4200 miles on it.

Thats the beauty of it .....sell all the original stuff as PowerWagon896 has done.:)
Also, an easy install in your driveway.....not a trip to the dealer.
My Jeep front and rear diffs are pretty Damn easy to install.:beerchug:
Haa....try to install a Quaife in your driveway with regular tools.....AIN'T going to happen!
Final cost to be determined in the next 10 days.....dependent on the test guys if they can break an axle.
Ok....I have a stronger axle already produced....I REALLY don't think the SpeedFactory (or anyone else) will break one of my standard axles even with their TRUE slicks, spool and 9 second capabilities.
Lets see what happens in the short term....I promise I have designed this so you can't break it AND to be cost effective.
I used the stock '09 6 speed hubs BTW as a cost reduction.
I had the Chrysler '09 axles cut apart to determine the material and heat treatment....found mid grade mild steel that was heat treated to about 1/8" thickness. Not quite what I was looking for with all the power put to these axles!

The Paramount rear I have in my car works like it's practicly stock: I went from a 2.82 gear (stock 5.7) to my tru track, 3.23 gears and only gained about 300 RPMS when driving down the HWY @ 70 MPH. Here's a nice little pic I took of it.

Bill & I had lengthly discussions via both PM & phone before I made the decision to purchase his product..
These units, including the axles are derived from OEM parts & will have replacement parts reaaily available for the forseeable future.
In a worst case scenario the axles can be rebuilt by a competant shop familiar W/fabricating CV joint axles using readily available components..
The outer ends of the axles fit OEM "09" LX hubs & the 8.8 Ford center section has tremendous support through OEM as well as aftermarket parts suppliers.
Anyone that knows me can attest to the fact that I am a "tighta$$".
Even though I am willing to spend lot's of $$$$ in the quest for performance, I demand drivabilty foremost W/an emphasis on maintainability. I also want the most "bang for my buck".
I think these units will fulfill all my requiremants.

Has anyone broken a Mercedes diff yet? I personally do not think a Ford part could ever be as strong as a Chrysler or Mercedes part! :)

Actually yeah! I know of 3 5.7 based cars that have broken them. I like the fact that with Bills set up you have the option to have any gear ratio you want not to mention a posi!

Stupid question...Is the 8.8" rear considered the same as the Ford 9" rears of the past?

Stupid question...Is the 8.8" rear considered the same as the Ford 9" rears of the past?
NOPE!!!!!!!!
I tried the 9" Ford in the Jeep diff...what a DISASTER!!!
The 9" Ford is great for drag race only vehicles, BUT, there are NO factory gears made for the Damn things....only noisy race gears.
You sure as hell DON'T want that!
I've used the 8.8 in the rear end of the SRT8 Jeeps and they work GREAT!
I have one in mine actually.
The 8.8 is a heavy duty rear diff that has been around since the early 80's and still in production today.
Many racers use them....1,000 hp +++ race / street cars.
Great diff, VERY available and it holds the price down for you guys.
Guaranteed, as a Senior Development Engineer , it looks like Mercedes made this unit to fit in the LX platform.
Best of all worlds.
If I thought there was another rear that met my (and yours obviously) criteria i would have chosen it.
The Mercedes rear is a friggen joke compared to this.
I now have Mercedes guys waiting for this diff....BEHIND you guys.
One "E" series will have production unit #2.....Trojan gets #1 production unit.
The Mercedes unit will hold up on a Mercedes ONLY because of Torque management.
Well as MOST of us realize....Torque management is ancient history to us...LOL

To hold the cost down I am using the '09 Chrysler hubs rather than redesign them.
The CV joints are the most heavy duty I could find.
The bars are chrome moly 4340.
I was going to do bolt on axles, however it would have raised the cost and hopefully you won't be removing these axles often.
I could save a few buck going with an off shore gear set, HOWEVER I stayed with tried and true American Made gears. The American made gears tend to be lapped in better.
The limited slip options are whatever you want all the way to a spool like I built for the SpeedFactory car.
Hope this helps!:)

Bill, so the axle is a custom made part with upgraded CV joints / chromoly shaft? I ask cause while the 8.8 diff was plenty strong the Cobra guys had issues breaking IRS axles early on. I assume they resolved this by going to stronger axles.
The main advantage I see here is the unlimited availability of cheap gear/diff options.... way overdue.
Has anyone broken a Mercedes diff yet? I personally do not think a Ford part could ever be as strong as a Chrysler or Mercedes part! :)
I know of one "stock" SRT8 having a diff turn in to a mess inside. I had to change mine due to a bad pinion bearing. Can't buy just the parts from Jesus Chrysler. If only this was available at the time!

Yes, the main advantage is the unlimited availability of gears & limited slip options.
Ultra high production of the components translates into cost savings.
The axles are nothing like the Cobra axles.
That said...let's see if the Speedfactory can break my initial design of axle. It is possible.
If they can not break my initial design....then there will only be one axle offered.
I do have an ultra exotic axle......my calculations show it most likely won't be needed.
I will have a spare ultra heavy duty pair at Charlotte for the Speedfactory car, just in case.
NO GUESSING on the hp ratings by me...."overdesign" costs you guys money.
Test...test...test.

Awesome Bill thanks mate. Would not need the driveshaft though, just everything else. With the money I have spent on my driveshaft (V8 supercar spec - suited to the T400 installed) I will have mine modified to suit. Let me know when you have the pricing available for the rest.
Thanks mate.
