Need a little drag radial help.

Ok so i'm looking at drag radials and i'm just so overwhelmed with everything thats out there and trying to find a damn rim now im getting frustrated on what size drag radial to buy. Ok so i'm putting dr's on all 4 corners (awd), i'm going to be buying an 18x8 wheel and might be widening it not sure yet gonna let the tire decide that if its wide enought that it needs widening. What size drag radial should i get? the AWD's have very similar gearing to the srt 3.06 the awds have 3.07. My rev limiter is a little over 6k i think. what heigh should i go with? some people say 26" is good, some others say 28.5" is good also. Any input? gotta take into accoutn i CANNOT heat these things up burnouts are out of the question so i may have to go quite wide.

Edit: forgot to throw in a little bit of info. 392 stroker spraying a 100 shot so my trap is gonna have to be 110+ i would assume. I'm thinking of getting a run on street tires to see what my trap is like.

W/that kind of TQ, a 28" drag radial would be best W/the 3.07 AWD axle ratio. That would allow you to trap up to about 116-128 MPH @ 6100/6700 RPM in 3rd gear.

I don't think you will find any that will fit an 18 X 8" wheel.

If you could squeeze 17" X 9" wheels on it a 275/50 17 M&H would be good, They are not overly wide & would probably not cause a great deal of problems on the front as wider tires might..

Looks like a 255/50R18 tire would be 28" tall and would fit on an 8" wide wheel ..... :thumbs_u:


Also, 275/45R18 is 27.74" tall size, so that might work, but might require an 8.5" or 9" wide wheel as a minimum ...

I think all of the posters missed this. Drag radials pick up a lot of crap just moving around in a parking lot. The AWD is not going to get them clean, let alone hot.

How about some "sticky" street tires?

Just wet em down a bit, chain the rear end up to a stout post & light em up! You might need the trailer hitch receiver for this.

Seriusly, why couldn't you set the front wheels in the water box & have the track spray a little water under the raer tires.

You couldn't hold the brake & do a big smokey burn out but you could proably get them scuffed up pretty good by just nailing it from the water box.

I'm running the Mickey Thompson 265/45/18's on the rear of my RWD RT on stock RT rims. If the temperature is 60F or above and track prep is good, I can powerbrake to 2800 at the line with no warmup. Last yellow, touch her off and they will spin one revolution, when I hear solid hookup, I slam a 100 shot. My signature was before the cam install, btw. If you have 4 of these babys on you're gonna need a lot of grunt to break em loose. MT makes a 305/35/18 also if you widened out your rims. I ran the car at NEDW at 30F and had a heck of a time to get traction, so temp is critical, AWD is not going to be able to heat em up with a burnout.

thanks everybody for the input. 17's wont fit over the front brakes so i have to go 18's. there are NO 18x9 or wider rims that will fit the charger awd, abosultely none trust me i looked, if someone finds them i will personally shake their hand :not_worth. I can get a 18x8.5 rim and widen them. Then from there my options are pretty much wide open. What i can do is try in my driveway we down the driveway real good and try burnouts there but i dont think that is such a good idea. If i can find a good way to clean them off in the staging lanes i should be ok. And the only problem with doing burnouts IN the waterbox or near lots of water is all the water up in the fender will now drip down on the wheels making more problems. Sticky street tires would be great, but sticky enough street tires that are not gonna only hookup on the line, but also make it down the track without any hairy issues would be great, but idk how sticky theyre gonna be.

He ran street tires im pretty sure.....and last time i remember he was rebuilding his motor and didnt make many track runs before hand.
